It is fog-of-war hack of course. Other methods would cause desyncs (mods/hacking gold. mike4all managed to hack gold without an instant desync but that only happened because only one player opens the save at a time in PBEM) or get caught much sooner (illegal diplomacy, it's only a matter of time until someone leaks).
He got audited because he streamed while cheating. Edit: And moved settler, not scout, first

And yes this is the same CivPlayers league, although the owner childishly got rid of the forums to look better to new players.

After seeing this I've gone down a 2-day rabbit hole of civ6 multiplayer vods. Perhaps I need to give playing it another try

Next game, I'm in.
At least the barbarian galleys won't be able to one-shot me at low odds there

Fascinating video, thanks for posting. I'm no Civ6 expert, but I liked the way the video started by showing his POV and then showing the options available to him - it made his choices really glaring. All hail the yolo 360 no-scope settler move. A bunch of his decisions were clearly insane given the information in front of him.
I am really curious whether he is truly an anomaly, or if he just happens to be the best player cheating like this, so he got the attention. Maybe if Speaker pops by this thread he can tell us more, but I really wonder if the community sentiment is that this type of thing probably happens more often undetected, or if this really is just one guy. For example, the edges gained here seem like the type of edges that would make enough difference to push the 30th best player to #1, but not the 200th best player. Maybe I'm mis-calibrated on that though.
I am vaguely interested in playing in that Civ6 game at some point. I don't really know to what extent. I would be pretty green as I don't regularly play the game, so it would either need to be a green-friendly game, or I'd need an experienced ded-lurker. Or maybe I'll just ded-lurk someone myself.

CIV 6 Mp is great.
The video is fascinating.
The city plant is damning. No way moving the settler is the right play here. He got the scout and could move it.

You should! Maybe we can be co-players. I've been catching up on your threads and I think that if we work together, we can be twice as worse.
Also I need to check that video out. I've had it on my recommendation list a while but ignored it because I'm familiar with that YouTuber and he tends to be click-baity and I didn't realize it was legit.
I'm just doing my best out here.

Maybe I'm mis-calibrated on that though. Personally, I thought the whole thing was a bit overblown. Andrew was a sketchy character at times, but I thought the "evidence" was a bit overblown, and Herson's whole persona is a schtick for views. I recommended a month suspension to the Head Admin, but they had a moderator vote, and the slight consensus was a perma-ban. I don't think Andrew had really cultivated (m)any friends amongst the admins, which didn't help support his case.
Basically, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't actually cheat. I watched him stream many times, and never really noticed anything super out of the ordinary. But he was also a "win at all costs" kind of player, so it wouldn't surprise me if he cheated as well. There was no real smoking gun though, so to speak.
Also, he wasn't really considered the top player by anyone really. He was ranked #1 on the FFA leaderboard, but that was more about him selecting lobbies he could easily win. The very best players are generally playing Team games, not FFAs, as it is the far more competitive format. Amongst the FFA players, he was top tier, but doubt anyone would say he was the very best, if that makes sense.
