[PB79] MirOh No, what am I doing?

Your drafted muskets will come with a promotion now as well. And ya not a lot of transports luckily. Amphibious grens can still be pretty nasty if he has them. Still I think you can hunker down while crash building a navy. You might lose a city or two, but try to keep all the important ones.

You'll be first in turn order, so he may not know about the whipped SoL from mechs (assuming its well garrisoned). Feel free to take out a galley if it isn't guarded. Save your promos to heal after.

Corporation yields is the one spot I wouldn't trust the Civopedia. The numbers are adjusted inversely proportional to map size, so you should start a sim with the correct size to see what the exact yields you get are.

Still no war. Xist moved 2 tiles closer to my island Telestrations, but will need to DoW this turn to get any closer. He could also wait 1 turn for his Galleys to get in range of unloading T185. He was last to play T183 and logged out at turn roll, so T184 war seems clear this turn.

I upgraded my Axe on the island to a Grenadier and I have 5 SoL + 3 Frigates in the area to fight his 7 SoL + 5 Frigates, but I'll wait a few turns for more SoL.

I put my 1 SoL (Mechs v Minions) right behind his Galleys (not in range to hit). I assume I'll lose it, but have decent odds of taking out one of his SoLs in the process and at least slow down his force.

I also upgraded 2 Triremes to Frigates in the north. Expensive, but I think it's owed after my greediness earlier. I'm pretty confident about the navy war up there; he mainly has Frigates and few transports (which haven't moved). I haven't started moving any navy through the canal though. His 11 Frigate force in the north went somewhere northeast into Gira's waters. Odd.

I'm transporting a few Muskets and an LBow to my southeastern island in case coldrain tries to push for it.

Good point! I think this is a small map but file changed for it to be "Standard", so I just made a Standard map and checked the yields. That matches what I had before, but if it checks actual map area, then I'll have even higher yields. Sweet.

T186 small update:

No war! We're safe! Xist turned around and might have just been trying to fake us out and force heavy whips or something. Xist started a GA a few turns ago and his GA GNP is massive. Rather than go to war, he might just ride this eco wave to take a lead after forcing my reaction. Solid play.

Phew. Now we have nothing to worry about.

Fuck.

You know where I don't have army? East side. Rifling finishes next turn and I'm moving all Knights and a handful Cho-ko-nu to the east. I do have ~3 Cannons over there and a few Cannons/Grenadiers finishing soon. coldrain could hit a city in 2T. Smash Up started a Cannon or Gren.

I'm splitting my navy roughly 50/25/25. 50% towards coldrain right now, 25% near xist's SW waters, 25% in northern waters.

I don't know enough about Coldrain to know if he is serious or not. SOME people (and its a low number) are willing to ally with someone who took cities off of them to help take down the leader. I've done this, BUT only after I get my cities back they took from me in war (which Coldrain hasn't gotten yet so I'm confused, but different people different).

Depending what he does you might be able to not whip your last bit of GA. Also, want to get back up to pop totals to do a round of drafting on some of those cities, before more SoL whipping. But just depends on situation.

T188:

He didn't DoW, maybe he was worried about my (defensive) buildup and was worried I'd hit him. His stack movements might just be defensive.
But his whipping, log out at turn roll, and extra Galleons he's adding to his southern force still concern me.

I want the pressure off of me. A coldrain DoW would be followed by xist a few turns later and I could lose a handful of cities.

So I sent him this:

If his navy moves away from me, it'll take me 9 turns to get my SoLs to the other side. I'll gladly DoW xist early to prevent the 2v1 against me.

T193 Mini update:
coldrain didn't respond, but he hasn't made aggressive moves, either. His navy moved 1 tile closer, close enough to hit a city the turn he DoWs, but 1 Galleon also turned around and I see a 2nd navy of his idle in his main seas, so I don't think he wants to fight anyone.

~T190 xist completed Creative Constructions, so I'll be aiming for Mining Inc. I wasn't close to contesting CC, I don't even have Corporations yet.

I needed a distraction tonight, so I took on a very monotonous task and I'm curious on your thoughts on my infrastructure choices and xist's.
Aside from the Christian buildings, our infrastructure is pretty even with a few disparities:
  • He has very few Markets (or I suck at finding them)
  • He hasn't built any Universities
  • He hasn't built a Heroic Epic, National Epic, nor Forbidden Palace

Reminder:
We're both PRO, so we get +50% production of Market and +100% production of Walls and Castle.
I'm ORG, so I get +100% production of Lighthouse, Courthouse, and Factory.
Xist is FIN, so he gets +50% production of Bank.

I SS'd every city of his and looked for all of the buildings in them. He has many Banks, but no Universities, no Epics, and no Forbidden Palace.

I haven't spotted his newest island, so I only see 27 / 28 cities and can't be certain I didn't miss a few buildings. I did some sandbox testing to check that as long as I had vision on a city once, I should be be able to see new infrastructure added later even if I haven't seen the city in a long time, so the table should be up-to-date even though I only have vision of a few cities right now.

I saw a few religious buildings in his cities, but they aren't the +2 Science, +2 Production, +2 Wealth like the Christian ones are so I omitted them above. Also omitted his Hanging Gardens, Aqueduct(s), and Levees if he has any. Levees are hard to find. He also has 2 Creative Con buildings, I'm sure it will be spreading fast.

My city info includes:

My Oxford isn't far off (yes I made 7 Universities, I was worried I'd lose one of the cities earlier). I have Banks, Levees, and a 3rd Drydock in production.

Questions:
(Q1): Does it seem like I'm overprioritizing PRO Markets or might xist be underprioritizing them?
(Q2): Do my Universities seem too early? Xist finished Education back around T169 but hasn't made any Universities.
(Q3): Is Forbidden Palace lame? Don't tell me it's uncool, it lowers maintenance costs and we're big empires! All the cool kids build it, right?

If there are any other clear overprioritizations we're both failing with, please let me know!

That is impressive as hell. I may do some more looking later, but quick responses as its late for me.

1) Quick glance the number of markets you have seems correct for a pro player. Halfish of your cities where either the commerce or happiness if valid. I actually find grocers usually exceed my markets eventually in the build up to factories and coal plants.
2) This may impact above, but here especially I expect the fact he was in a war with Coldrain followed by a maybe move towards you kept him from building universities. They are pretty expensive. You also were in org religion for a bit and have AP buildings to help with production. Was he in org religion ever? Its pretty OP for infrastructure. Even with all those caveats he probably should have built some by now. Its a major science jump and is a good sign going long for you. He may be doing more wealth builds which isn't horrible at this point, but he is losing beakers by never getting.
3) Most people eventually build yes even only medium sized empires. Its possible he just doesn't have a convenient spot (middle ish on one side with high production). Or again could be war delayed. Same with the epcis, you pretty much always build them if you can when time allows.

4) Will look more later.

5) what else is happening in the world? How does tech situation look? Taking creative is interesting. He was part of PB72, so he may be higher on it because of that game.

1) Oh right, I'll have to think about Grocers for Factories and Coal Plants. I usually skip Coal Plants in SP.
2) I never wrote down their civics in my notes, but I know he had Org Religion at one point. Here are the current civics:

5) Rest of the world is pretty quiet right now. I lost vision on xist's tech after he used a Great Spy against me back around T189. Should get tech vision again in 2T - 3T. This little popup showed up a few minutes ago, but I can't read, so idk what to make of the pretty colors:
