Seriously though, this is Scooter and my second AW Duel PBEM. The last one did not go well for me. We had tried to to do a water map because neither of us had much experience with naval warfare. It was fun but we both proved our inexperience. I think in the middle of the game the battle for naval superiority flip floped numerous times. Blockades were/are just a pain. The biggest downside to the game (besides losing) was that we played on Quick speed. IMHO, it was too fast because units obseleted before getting significant use.
This game is different. Our map is a mirror land map. We started right next to each other (I'm on the East Side and Scooter is on the West). We're both Boudica of Sumeria. I know pictures are worth a thousand words so I'll try to get some up tonight.
The map was designed to try to give the challenge of balancing REX with early border skirmishes/defensive needs.
My strategy at the moment is super simple: I want to get units into Scooter's land ASAP and pester his development. I'm not the greatest micromanager but I feel like I can do decently well at finding good ways to slow Scooter down! Chokes are really hard to break. I'm 2 turns from BW atm which will let me know if we have bronze in the capital. Also, I just popped Hunting from a hut which is perfect because I'm going to Archery next to get some better harrassment units into the enemy land.
While it will slow down my intial growth curve (my initial build was three warriors and one WB), I think it will pay off. First, Scooter already has to worry abotu the warrior sitting in his BFC. It gives me advanced warning if he comes at me. And it gives me greater exploration. I popped a Scout too so I'm hoping to get some of "his" huts too.
