AFAIK there is no "declare war" option, you have to attack an AI in order to trigger a DOW from you, and I think you have to attack successfully (destroy all bases at a world and bomb or invade it). For the ruthless personality (I have not rolled my traits yet) doing this at all times might be hard, say the only world you can reach is packed full of bases, or they have planets shields strong enough to neutralize all your weapons. Is there some other way to trigger a war in these cases?

Edit: also for honorable, since "espionage" is a subset of spy actions, I am not sure if passive spying (just to view what techs AI has, no tech stealing/sabotage) is allowed.

I think all of the personalities leave some room for interpretation and they are not intended to be too strict.

For Ruthless you are right that you have no DOW option and no certain way to force a DOW from the AI. My intention would be to behave as far as reasonable as if I was at war whatever the official state of relations. If there was a weak planet nearby go conquer it. If there are only strong planets nearby try to sabotage them. If no reasonable candidate then ruthlessly conduct espionage against weaklings. Of course cancel any treaties signed when they were stronger. (I would not threaten because it frequently leads to a peace treaty). Any or all of these may lead to a DOW from AI or not but at least you have adopted a war stance to this weakling.

Of course this is just my interpretation, you may decide to play it differently, as long as it follows the general theme. For example the Honorable and hide spying is a close choice. You may decide to be a strict Honorable who would not consider any spying on a friend or a practical Honorable who thinks intelligence gathering is just sensible precaution in case things change. The games are likely to be very different anyway so do not worry about playing it differently to someone else with the same personality.

All in all a fun concept and I am looking forward to playing it however the dice roll!

[Edit] Actually since spying & sabotage are not mentioned in the game description, I am thinking that 'espionage' means all spying. Certainly an Honorable would not sabotage and a Xenophobic would. Of course an Honorable could gather info by scanner ships or tech trades (completed or not) if you consider these honorable acts.

Yeah, the rules are mostly just guidelines. I don't care if people interpret them in slightly different ways. Use your best judgement. smile

Can I reroll my personality if what I get is too close to my original playing strategy?

I did! This looked a good opportunity to try a different approach but the the dice failed me. It would have had differences but was not radical enough. So I blacklisted what I did not want (just preference for variation not difficulty) and re-rolled from the alternatives.

I think the idea is to have fun exploring different personalities & reporting it, so people accept it or list it as a mirror.
