Just back from Uganda

most people dont even know i was there but yeah!

Was there with my uni class, left 16th nobember and came back today. Was a lot of fun. 6 days in kampala doing random stuff, like visiting the swedish embassy, seeing a forest being deforestated and seeing the mouth of the nile at the victoria lake

then 3 days in fort portal 5 hours by bus west of kampala near the border to kongo, visiting a university there, seeing tea plantations

then south to the bush in the middle of a jungle, in place called Kasenda, we lived right next to a crater lake, we had monkeys, rats, giant spiders and bats every night everywhere. We had a study there, interviewing farmers and mapping their lands and stuff

then after all that 2 days of safari in queen elizabeth national park, then me and 5 guys hiked in the rwenzori mountains for 2 days which was great, then another night in fort portal before leaving for entebbe at the coast of the victoria lake to relax for 6 days before going home, and i came home today. Lost our bags on the way home, but just got a text that the bags were found in stockholm and were sent to gothenburg so we can pick them up tomorrow thanfully

been drunk for 4 weeks in a row now (since ever night we hgot drunk becauyse why not when you're 24 yonung swedish people) and im thinking that i should continue this because otherisw ill be hungover for like 5 days which wont be fun

anyways its nice to see realms beyond again

Yeah, but they have to wait for them.

Of course the waiting time can be passed while drinking wink
___

This thread is worthless without pics btw. Natural beauty is acceptable, drunk Swedish girls is preferred.

Or even 10%. A co-worker of mine was doing some trekking in the rain forest and stumbled on a restaurant that served "exotic" food. Think Fabulous Gourmet Club from The Freshman. He was a marathon runner. Then he could handle 10K. Then a brisk walk. Eventually he couldn't get out of bed. Went to some doctors and got diagnosed with terminal liver cancer; one month to live. He was a bit bummed and decided to get a second opinion. This doctor was scanning over the test results and suddenly asked if he'd ever been in the tropics. He'd apparently picked up a parasite that had it made it through 90% of his liver. They killed the parasite and the liver grew back. Morale of the story? Don't eat or drink anything that comes from the rain forest.

Well McDonald's only takes over after the rain forest has been killed by fire so I think its safe.

You got back from a developing country, and the first thing everyone thinks of are hot swedish girls? For shame tongue

As we all know, developing countries negotiate their resources, whether it be labour or commodities, from a position of weakness. Was there an attitude by Ugandans that they were being exploited by foreign forces outside their control? Or was there an attitude that they should take whatever opportunities they could, just so they could compete with the global market?

Do Ugandans feel that things are improving, especially as established technologies from the first world trickle down? I know alot of developing countries have embraced mobile phone technology as it's a surprisingly robust way to keep in contact with friends and family, but what else have they been able and afford to embrace?

Finally, Uganda has been known to have poor attitudes towards homosexuals. I don't think this can be solely explained by the homophobia introduced by American Fundemenalist Christianity. What were the gender relationships like? Was there any sense that gender roles were absolutely set in stone, that "Manliness" was mandated, and that some behaviours could not be tolerated at all?
