Notes:
This map was created for PBEM31, and there is lots of ancient-era map knowledge in the reporting threads there. The game ended early, with much of this excellent map unexplored. Stay out of the lurker thread until after you play!

The monarch difficulty may be on the easy side, especially with tech trading turned off. I expect some early finishes, and some VERY elite units on reporting day. Also, this save was created in bug mod, but will work without it. Since this is a somewhat pre-used map, I don't expect any whining about shadow reports. Do your best, and have fun.

Edit: Stripped of BUG mod per T-Hawk request

Just a heads up, I assume you mean that you get 2 points for using nuke(s), and not 2 points for each nuke that you use. Otherwise everybody is going to be waiting it out until modern age to stockpile up nukes, and then just blow 100 of those to inflate their score. smoke

Right, 2 points, one time. ...the other way would be fun though!

At the last enemy city, kill the last enemy unit with a gunship. Take a screenie of the final city with no defenders to get 3 points.

Kind of a gimmick really, I was trying to encourage people who weren't in the running for fastest finish to still get some points. Initially the points were for teching advanced flight, but I figured it was a good chance to exercise a little-used unit.

I'm not sure a single-player competitive event is the place to reuse a map, where some players have varying levels of spoiler info on it. Also I'm not sure how many players have the patience for an Always War game. But nobody's made any other proposals for an event, so have at it.

Just to be clear: please don't use BUG or other such mods if playing this as a competitive event. The policy on mods for single player events can be found here: http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...php?t=3819

Also, for new players, please review the rules for competitive events here. http://realmsbeyond.net/civ/civ4-tournamentrules.html Games played using an unapproved mod, or with too much spoiler info, or otherwise outside of those rules, are considered unofficial "shadow" games and not eligible for scoring. We'll still read any such report you care to share, but please play within bounds if at all possible.

Finally, I note that the closing day is just four weeks out, which is a bit short timeframe for Always War. Ceiliazul, would you agree with pushing that back? (One week makes it right after Easter weekend; two weeks might be better.)

T-Hawk, I did push out the deadline, and clarified the rules that spoiler info from the 31 threads is allowed (except lurker thread) I realize these are basically *all* shadow reports... would it be better to remove all scoring aspects? That just seems less fun.

While this is somewhat spoiled with the map having been used in a PBEM lately, I think this is still a really good idea. We have a good map here, and a fun concept. Just have the players their reports as spoiled (at any level of reading player threads) or not. Maybe 2 scoreboards?

And if this gets popular, maybe we'll see a resurgence of the Adventures, since it seems like those haven't been *as* active as of late.

I think the best option would be to establish a common level of knowledge among all players. I wouldn't prefer two scoreboards, both since that doesn't encompass all varying levels of map knowledge and I don't want to fragment the player base.

Ceiliazul, could you produce a screenshot that shows the approximate extent of map knowledge reached by the PBEM31 players and lurkers? This could be player shots merged together, or a worldbuilder image cropped, or whatever you feel appropriate. If this means basically the entire map, so be it; we've done that before. I just really want a level playing field here for all competitors.
