Has anyone tried Monaco? Any opinions? I wish people would stop with the retro 8-bit aesthetic already (something like FTL is fine), but the reviews are pretty dazzling for the most part. Here's a couple.

I bought it and I think it's a bit overhyped. The two German reviews I checked also rated lower than average.
I am not saying it's a bad game, but IMHO the main point is this: If you have 3 friends on voice chat/at your house who play the game with you as a 4 player coop then it's most likely worth it and you can have a really good time (though I would argue that this depends as much one your friends as on the game wink ).
As a single player game, I find it a rather dull experience. In a certain way I felt I was playing a modern version of Pac-Man (run around, avoid guards, collect coins).

I just picked up a 4-pack of this in the Steam Sale and it's a blast. Had some fun crazy play with my cousins in for Christmas, and i've really been enjoying single player too. I think it's really fun, not sure why you've found it dull Gustaran. There seems to be enough variety level to level, and due to how roles are made up it's quite different playing through levels repeatedly with different characters.
