So, uhm. Yeah. I wanted to make the spoiler thread. No idea what to actually write here as of yet, but we can always discuss some random stuff like, uh.. Thief? Did any of you play the new Thief? I have played it a little bit, but had to put it away a few days ago because I've had crazy lots of stuff to do.
I guess I can also mention that I am rather inexperienced with writing spoiler threads, so I fear that my thread will get a bit dull with rather informative but not very entertaining posts about what's going on. I'll do my best though at some feeble attempts of witticism etc.
I am completely new to playing with RBMod btw, and the main reason I wanted to join this game was because it's going to be absolutely crazy. Crazy is fun, so yeah. Even if I'm pretty green compared to the RB veterans, I didn't want to miss this one, just for the ability to say "I both played in AND hosted that lunatic 34-player Pitboss over at RB in 2014..." ![tongue tongue](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/RBOld/tongue.gif) I'll carefully read the RBMod changelog etc - but I will appreciate any pointers about major changes I really should know about from the base game.
That wasn't so bad for a first post where I had no idea what to type? *pats myself on the shoulder*
Edit: My civ password is leo13 just in case someone needs to log in for me, or wants to log in just to take a look around

The biggest impact I saw in the early game was the slavery nerf. Single whips haven't changed, but the old standby of 2-whipping everything important in the ancient age is gone. Civics in general have been heavily tweaked, so make sure to look for options you haven't tried before in the mid-game.
Oh, and hunting pastures makes a big difference right off.

Good start. There's no rules for this, just post what's interesting to you and stay above Azza in the thread list

Haven't you read RB? Information is entertaining.

So, the game finally seems to be on now!
I'm not going to post very much right now - just a screenshot of my start.
I elected to SIP, since the river north of the site is very tempting for cottaging with all those green lush tiles, and I even have a nice little flood plain tile to cottage. I also, obviously, sent the scout north instead of south, as I could make out that river in the fog, and wanted to see what was up there. Also, I quickly decided that hunting is the tech to go for, so I can get pastures on the animals asap.
I'm not entirely sure what I should focus on with this combination of leader/civ - but SPI/CHA apparently isn't a bad combo. I believe I must emphasize city size, to get max benefit out of those +2 happy for each city I have. Also as SPI I have the luxury of jumping back and forth between civics, although with a 5 turn delay (I assume that is still retained in the mod, since the mod aims for balance, not making SPI an insanely powerful trait ![tongue tongue](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/RBOld/tongue.gif) ).
Lewwyn: Yeah, information is entertaining of course - but most people seem to be terribly bored with posts that only present screenshots and mildly uninteresting stuff about what's going on without elaboration on long term plans and powerful analysises of everything and everyone. I'm not good with that, and C&D definitely isn't my thing. And even though I should probably work a bit on my C&D skills, I am so definitely not not not not going to start on that in this insane world. :D
Ceil: Thanks for the tips! Is slavery still a good civic given this change? I imagine that I can get more benefit out of slavery than non-CHA leaders with those two extra happy faces, so I suspect I have an advantage there?

You should have moved your scout NW-NE. You would have uncovered the same tiles but the unit would be farther from your capital for the next turn.

Slavery is still very good, it's just not far and away better it's competitors anymore.

That's a very good and quite embarrassing point. I have no idea why I didn't think of that. I am not *that* green at Civ....

So, here's Turn 1 screens.
I moved the scout N-NW, and I must say I like this river quite a bit. Lots of cottage potential here on green riverside tiles. I'm already starting to wonder where the best location for my next city is, as I'm quite certain I should make it near those pigs north of Amethyst. I could place it on the tile 3N of Amethyst to share the inevitable FP cottage and the plains hill mine of course. Another option is 1E of the pigs if I want less tilesharing. Given that I will be able to keep my cities 2 pop above any non-CHA civs, I am not sure on the best way to emphasize on that, but one thing that strikes me is that I should perhaps keep tilesharing lower than I would with a non-CHA leader. I welcome any input here
Also, for the scout I have two options next turn. Either move it NW-NW or NE-N. What do you guys think? Do I want to see as much as possible of the river area where I plan on placing my next city when I get to that point, or should I get as much visibility in the NW as possible?
Just a quick look at how the city looks inside. Not much to look at to be honest, but I really like the 3 food resources I have :D
When the time comes for whipping I am going to need some advice on how to benefit the most from that. I am not very good at judging when to whip or not, so I am hoping it is possible to get some good advice from the lurkers here.
I find it very interesting that I am 2nd in food. Of course, I expect I share that position with quite a few people - but I'm curious why someone is actually at 2 food. Could it be someone opting for an early warrior instead of a worker, and who is working a forested plain hill perhaps to get a city defender? The 11 food I see no other explanation for than the lurker civ, so I am not very bothered by that number.
I assume worker first is a better option than warrior first, since everyone starts with scouts - but there is always the risk that a neighbour builds a warrior first, and sends that warrior off to look for a potential undefended capital of a neighbour. I guess I'll just have to take that risk, and if I end up getting eaten by a ragtag band of riff raff warriors this early, then so be it.

I haven't bothered posting screenshots for a few turns now as I am just moving the scout around, but now it's time for a new turn report as we've both met Q, and you guys should see the very nice land I have discovered so far! ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) Making a dotmap for this isn't going to be too easy, as there are so many nice locations, so I would appreciate some suggestions!
And the demos, for those that may be interested (I guess it's a bit early for them, as this game is definitely not a demohacking game anyways with this many players)

Still just roaming around with my scout, but a few interesting updates.
* I found mining in a hut! :D (which is the reason why I am 4th in score I believe)
* I have met Q and Ruff_hi. Q knows where my capital is, and I know where his is.
The lands between me and Q are highly valuable. Lots of resources, so I guess this is a resourceheavy map. I have recalled my scout now, because it's time to scout in the other direction.
Here's some screens I've taken on various turns back. That gold hill 1 tile away from my capital BFC looks interesting, and I suspect the best location for my second city is 1N of the deer there, so I get both the gold, deer, dry rice and the elephant for that next city. I don't expect to get much feedback from lurkers in this game, which is a bit of a pain since I could really use some helpful pointers and stuff given my noobness. But then again, I have absolutely no aspirations of being among the best players in this game, and I am just tagging along as we go and try to have as much fun as I can while learning as much as I can at the same time.
Any feedback is welcome of course, both questions, advice, funny/condescending remarks about my ineptitude etc.
