Quick Civ 4 Configuration Question

So does anyone else have a problem where loading up a mod resets some configuration settings back to default? Lately if I'm loading RB Mod up by loading the mod, not loading the save, it will reset my fullscreen/flying camera/debug mode settings back to default and I have to muck about in the .ini again.

Check for an .ini file in your MODS folder. For example:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\RB Mod 2.0.6.4\RB Mod 2.0.6.4.ini

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

None of those items are in there. Should I add them in there to overwrite or something?

This happens to me sometimes, and as far as I can tell its occurrence is random.

I never figured out a way to totally avoid it; I just backed up my CivilizationIV.ini file and I revert to the backup when it gets reset.

Now that I think about it, you could try setting your CivilizationIV.ini to readonly.

The game always makes a backup of your current INI file when it overwrites it (with the .bak extension) so when this happens you can always revert it as long as you don't open the game again.

They should be in the My Games/beyond the sword folder in your Documents section, at least in Windows 7. Dunno if that applies for other Windows OSes.

Making the civilizationIV.ini read-only sorted that problem for me.

I've stopped closing civ by the corner X: since doing that the problem has stopped occurring. Although read only is the smarter way...
Current games (All): RtR: PB80 Civ 6: PBEM23

Ended games (Selection): BTS games: PB1, PB3, PBEM2, PBEM4, PBEM5B, PBEM50. RB mod games: PB5, PB15, PB27, PB37, PB42, PB46, PB71. FFH games: PBEMVII, PBEMXII. Civ 6:  PBEM22 Games ded lurked: PB18

I've had this happen to me for years now. I hadn't made the .ini read only, I should try that, but I did make a backup copy with the configuration I wanted and just paste over the main file when the problem occurs. It always seems random to me.

Lately I've had another issue where my profiles get... corrupted? So sometimes I'll play to find that I'm suddenly on the default profile and things don't work like I expect.

I use altroot, have separate config folders for each mod, no reset problems ever. smile

You can use a shortcut to load the right mod and specify the ini:
Quote:"C:\Program Files (x86)\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod="mods\RB Mod 2.0.6.4" ini=C:\civ4ini\CivilizationIVpb18.ini

Then within the ini you can specify things like your Host and Alias if say you need a different smurf account for different games.
Quote:; DirectIP Host Address
DirectIP = pitboss.watto.no:2058

; In-game Alias
Alias = Old Harry
