Opening Date: Monday, Monday March 19
Duration: Four Weeks
Map Script: Pangaea
Map Edits: A few
Game Speed: Normal
Difficulty: Monarch
Civilization: India
Leader: Gandhi
World Size: Standard
Opponents: Six
Victory: Any
Version: Civ4 v1.61
Scenario:
Noted vegetarian Gandhi is determined to rid the world of all cruelty
to animals. A great voice spoke to him in a vision and insisted
that all four-legged beasts held in captivity must be liberated
from the vile clutches of the unenlightened! As a pacifist, however,
Gandhi is also pledged to a strict life of non-violence. What a
dilemma!
Rules:
You may not issue any demands against other civs! (That's not the
way a pacifist would act.) You are free to refuse demands leveled
against you, however.
You
are also forbidden ever to hook up any of the following seven animal
resources: cows, deer, furs (beaver), horses, ivory (elephants),
pigs, and sheep. For example, you can never build a pasture on a
cow resource (we're vegetarians!)
Scoring:
This event has custom scoring. SCORING IS OPTIONAL. You are not
required to track your scoring if you prefer not to do so. If you
want to be scored, you need to document (via screenshot or saved
games, preferably both) all items that you claim for score, in case
we call on you to verify any of your claims. Fortunately, this should
be relatively easy to keep track of.
The
main scoring for this event is based on liberating animals from
captivity and then preserving them in their natural habitat. "Liberating"
an animal requires two elements:
1)
The animal resource must be within your cultural borders.
2) The animal resource must not have ANY tile improvements upon
it (including roads/rails).
The
seven animal resources listed above are the ones to keep track of
(again, those are cows, deer, furs, horses, ivory, pigs, and sheep).
For simplicity's sake, we're leaving the seafood resources out of
this. The actual scoring is as follows:
Main
Scoring
+1 point: EACH liberated animal you possess at the end of the 1800AD
turn.
-2 points: EACH time you declare war on another civ.
Bonus
Scoring
+10 points: Victory (any type)
+5 points: If you complete the game without ever declaring war.
+5 points: If you complete the game without ever adopting Slavery,
Police State, or Theocracy civics.
Your
goal will be to balance the liberation of more animals against the
penalty for declaring war. One hint for players: make sure to pillage
captured animal resources before your cultural borders expand! You
can't pillage tiles within your own territory. Anyone who finishes
prior to 1800AD will be scored on the final turn of their game.
Results
Results will be listed accorded to points earned. In the unlikely
event of a tie, precedence will go to the fastest finisher. If you
choose not to calculate your score, your results will be listed
in an Unscored category.
Closing
Day: Monday, April 16. Reports due by the end of April 17, your
local time.
