Rules: You MUST sign up in the Sign
Up Thread to participate in this Epic. Why? Because you're going to have
your civ assigned to you at random by the game itself from these eight possible
selections:
I generated a random
map through the editor, then chose eight civs to be eligible for this game and
locked the start points to the specific civs. Every civ will start in the same
place in each player's game, but YOUR civ will be randomly assigned. I've taken
the liberty of pre-generating a baker's dozen of randomly generated starts. For
example, the first four players MIGHT all be playing the same civ, or they might
all be playing different civs, or whatever the PRNG threw out there. I don't know
who is going to sign up or in what order, and nobody is going to know which civs
one another is playing. We're all playing the same map, though, with the civs
in the same places, so that should make the discussions interesting when report
time comes around. Here are the files I've pregenerated. If more than twelve players
sign up, I'll generate additional random starts as needed.
Oddly enough, it took
me five tries with the map generator to get a true Pangaea. That new editor minimap
is a godsend. So that I can play in this one on even terms, I'm posting the minimap
here for all to see. The start points are marked on the map with the tiny X's.
Those who sign up IN THE SIGN UP THREAD will be assigned zip files in the order
they appear.
The starts, civs,
terrain etc, will not be absolutely fair, but this is fair as I can make it with
a random map and randomized civ assignments.
Scenario Goals: To play the first post-patch Epic under loose conditions
to let everyone get some experience before we return to more stylized variants
and scenarios. I hope the comparison of games played from different points on
the map, along with the "play the hand you're dealt" feeling, will be
a worthy endeavor. Not knowing WHICH civs the others are playing should add some
spice to report day, as well.
Scoring:
None Closing Day: Monday, August 12. Reports due on August 12 or 13.
