So, I had this great plan to play through this game and post in on here - "Oh my goodness, a report from game that concluded 5 years ago; that guy is so hip!" - and then I forgot to save the game when I stopped playing it last night. And I didn't feel like replaying the 4 turns or so that I missed because a ton had happened.
The short report is that I was running along well in the early game, after configuring all the cities for max growth. That was a good idea.
I also had the great idea to put cottages everywhere - another good idea. My city specialization overview: The c's are commerce cities; the p's are production cities.
I know, masterful, masterful city selections.
It was fun to practice pulling myself out of the hole - even when I researched Nationalism first and then Saladin used a great engineer to rush the Taj Mahal. Even when I realized that I started the game a few techs away from conquistadors, which are nigh unstoppable until gunpowder units, and had completely ignored that tech path.
Here was my GNP growth. I was pretty proud of the upward trend.
I even teched to cavalry first and was right about to crush Hatshepsut when she declared on me ("a bonus! no diplomatic minuses!"). I managed to take two of her cities before calling it a night - and forgetting to save the game.
I was planning on playing the game out to conclusion, but my most recent save was before some very lucky dice rolls that allowed me to turn the tide - in my opinion.
So, a non-report for a game that ended 5 years ago. Considering how I started RB17, that's not half-bad.
End result: Retired at 1635AD(?)
