RBP6 Lurker Thread

Gazglum Wrote:I disagree, I think its part of the fun of public games to know that your actions are having an effect. Without a visible lurker thread, it would be hard to know if anybody was watching you at all, and make the players less inclined to put so much effort into reporting their games.

Also, you can never be sure that its -your- team that is causing lurker commotion. It all adds to the paranoia, which is entertainin to watch.
In fact, the thread explosion here had nothing to do with T3 at all. lol

If nothing else, this discussion has been a great stress test for the forum software.

Personally I thinik Sulla should have been corrected after he said he tested it in worldbuilder. Just simply saying that the game doesn't check for victory in the first x turns is an obscure mechanic that would never come up otherwise and took multiple people here to confirm.

But as a certain Australian politician said, "shit happens".

If you count attacker plus defender units killed, they might well set the record for most total units killed in one turn.

Oh, is that how it's measured?

Honestly thought it was for units killed by a single side. But you're right, that would make more sense.

Well, Ceil said total casualties which means both sides. rego (and I guess Cyneheard) seems to have interpreted it as one side though.

I never would have thought that Spulla would get the culture mechanics wrong. I've played for culture in a team pitboss game before (with Munro), and we never even considered the fact that we couldn't split the cities between our civs.

It's a simple error, but I don't think that correcting their mistake is any different than warning people not to leave cities undefended once Commandos are availible. Very spoilerish.

What if someone wrote "So they have commando units, but luckily commando units can't capture cities. I tested it out by attaching a great general to a scout. So if we leave all our cities empty we will be safe."

Then they goofed. I don't think correcting that mistake is any different than reminding someone that they forgot to choose a religion after switching to OR.
If someone asks, fine. Correcting assumptions is something completely different.

If I was close to a spaceship launch and the other team was giving up because they forgot about having 12t to raze my capital, same situation. (of course that doesn't work in MP, players just move their capital every turn if necessary)

After the last choose your own land OCC adventure I was intending to submit a new OCC adventure with the goal of winning by culture, domination, or conquest instead of the typical space or diplo win. Unfortunately life got in the way and I never got around to it.

I think the conclusion of this game might be a good time for such a game though. There's still plenty of life left in CIV and plenty of fun and somewhat obscure game mechanics to explore with variants, as this game demonstrates!

My guess is it's going to end up being a one-sided attack. TT defense and let the bodies pile up for the defenders. T3 have a lot of siege and a decent amount of MG so the number of hitters may not be enough to kill the last defender in time, but I'm not certain of the final composition. I think they'll just sit back and die, if they can tie up Lewwyn long enough to hit enter so he doesn't attack out. Win >>> Fun, even for him. jive
