Spain was the very first team that did defend its EC-title. Their success from 2008 till 2012 and their now ended streak of 29 games without a loss is more than enough to place them into the top-nations.
Well, we are talking about the EC here, it's not exactly a difficult competition. Wasn't Greece that won it some years ago?

Speaking as the proud owner of 4 Confederations Cup titles, I'm certainly pretending it.

Well when our season starts we'll make our own thread, with ovalballs and complaints that the players can't properly beat the shit out of each other thanks to overaggressive rulemaking!

They need to do it for a longer period of time...the countries Ichabod mentioned all have multiple World Cups. No one would disagree this Spanish squad is highly accomplished, but its really the first one that's lived up to its promise.

If you took a dive in the NFL, your own teammates would beat you up.

yep. no one fakes an injury, because even when there is a real injury people try to hide it, hehe.

There has been some talk about changing the WC from Brazil to USA, due to all the manifestations happening across the country. I doubt it'd happen, but you never know.
I don't see how you can possibly switch host countries this late in the game. They could cancel or postpone the event though...
