Regarding needing to request access to the forum to play/lurk, I actually think there's a strong point in favor of that. You just have to have looked at "New Posts" in the last few hours to see why - there are multiple threads called "Settings discussion" (OK, one of them has a capital D). With PB6, teams just created a few threads (or even just one) and things were fairly under control. But with this being a democracy game people may be creating new threads quite a lot, and this will increase the number of accidental clicks to spoilery threads. Making the forum invisible to people not on the team solves this problem quite handily (and also removes a lot things people aren't allowed to read from New Posts, which I would quite appreciate).

It seems a bit restrictive to have the game settings discussions only within teams so soon in the setup stage. I'll bet that if we all throw settings discussions in the open, we will convince each other and clear consensus will emerge for most things and we can fall back on the one vote per team thing for more divisive issues.

Also, am I right in thinking that hiding the sub-forums from non-team-members the only way to stop people inadvertently seeing other team's thread titles?

Yeah, I use the New Posts feature religiously, and it's now bombarded with threads from other teams, and it's tricky to figure which is for my team and which is for others. Also, if they're all visible, teams must use fairly blank thread titles to prevent spoilers. If it's invisible, threads can be named however we please.

shadyforce, I do think setup discussions should also be done here (or better, in the public part of the demogame subforum). Everybody should definitely listen to alternate points of view and seek to reach consensus rather than wrestling over your favourite toy. Even so, it is likely that we will end up voting over at least a few settings. Voting doesn't need to be a bad thing either, I think people will respect majority decisions even if they disagree.

Is anyone opposed to all subfora being completely open to all players for the next few days?

I'd like to join Darrell's team.

Are lurkers who aren't sure what team they'll join allowed to lurk/post in all threads?

I already have, but thought i'd better clarify.
Clear-cut forgiveness rather then permission.
