I don't agree with a lot of the analysis in Sian's thread, e.g. I think Portugal's UB is great. Not as good as Cothon's or Trading Posts but still very useful. After the three water civs there is a pretty decent drop-off. Someone will probably take Inca when they see the lack of seafood at the start. Ottoman might indeed by the last pick.
On the traits, IND strikes me as very powerful. I like Rameses for this map.

Reading over the Krill/rego chat that's much closer to what I'm thinking. I don't think any of the civs they are discussing will be available when they pick, but they can get a SPI/IND or IND/CHA leader, pair that with a decent UB and be fine.

Ind/Spi would be a good pick imo. Pyramids are going to be pretty big on this map. so using both Caste and Slavery is going to be pretty useful.

Clever thinking. Scout could reveal either crabs in the south or fishes in the north. For Fishing starters those both might be more appealing than settling in place.

Oh my I had a good chuckle at this. I wonder if everyone else will move this time.

It was not clear to me that a Hunting civ would get a Scout, wonder if Krlll/rego are discounting the possibility.

It would be a rather bell-ringer if you mentioned it now though...

I didn't quite expect such a negative reaction. In SP this start will be probably regenerated by most of us. In gamespy games this means almost certain lose since nations will always have thos corn and pig starts. However here they surely must know everyone is on the same boat close to similar starting areas. I think we have had enough lush starts so it is time to see how people manage poor starts.
Furthermore relying on gambling and moving won't give significantly better capital locations unless one moves inland, but those spots are visible already.

That start is broken. You start with hunting and get a scout on the warrior. You move it 2SW, see a crab and you can settle for 4fp, plains hill, tundra hill, plains cow and furs.
I'm sorry but that start is just so much stronger than everything else it's not right.

Good thing is that we can still change that because it is not visible.
However I'm not yet buying that it is broken. Only having Fishing right from the start would make it clearly better spot than some of the spots already visible.
