[SPOILERS] PB20 Lurker Thread of Perfect Hindsight

Maybe we can have a micro-community sad gits tournament!

I was happy to see them too, always cool when people congregate, especially when it's not on CFC.

2 things: It always irks me that people think PHI gets the earliest Academy. It doesn't in reality. EXP for more workers (to make up chops) and CRE to make the lib cheaper mean that the lib comes in earlier given the restraints of needing to build workers, settlers and warriors, as PHI can't just go "Hur dur I build a lib now to tech fasta" and then get crushed by someone that doesn't have an IQ of the temperature beer should be served at.

The other point is I'm seriously tempted to give someone else the map settings, get them to make the map and go play myself.

If I don't have to sign my name, I'll make the pools of vomit if it gets us the S/M/K game we've been wanting.

But like hell would I admin. LP in a Pitboss. Snake doesn't change its spots.

Yeah, that's pretty much the secondary reason why I wouldn't. The other is that I have RL to deal with but I can dream...

If I had the time I'd make a map. I've never done it before and have always wanted to give it a shot.

It's easy. Regenerate a map 10 times and save all of them, then look at them in novice's tool (easier to discern water shapes). Check the balance to see what the tool thinks each player gets with number of land tiles and then figure out where choke points and isthmuses (isthmi?) are needed to even up the numbers. Et voila, a fairly playable map that just needs starts checking. Don't even need much hand crafting if the settings are good.

Maybe it's an aesthetic thing, but I hate the Agg/Pro removal/replacement and I will never want to play a game on this mod. I fail to see how it is more minimalist than RBmod. Which might fairly be called "Krillmod", but a lot of us have had input on it. This is fairly clearly "7mod", with things like Exp, or Inca, making it particularly clearly Seven's little beaker valuation system at work.

But you like RB Mod, right? What's so different about this one? RB Mod made some pretty profound changes to Aggressive and Protective too, it just didn't rename them.

Not really on the same level, the entire concepts were changed in ToW. The changes to both traits in RB mod basically comes down to AGG getting a few more cheap buildings, barracks giving culture and city maintenance is lower, and PRO gets cheap granaries and loses a few other things. Compare that to getting additional food and hammers on specific tiles, the number of changes are greater but they are not profound changes.

Mods aren't really that comparable though, they do different things. ToW is really competing with base BtS, because it doesn't change core gameplay: you still want to spam cottages and grow pop onto them (especially with the tech option that affects medi era tech costs). The game will have more turns in the medi era, gives more turns to grow cottages, slavery isn't nerfed so the hammer reservoir is always good enough for instant defence, and there are no other viable tile improvements because the Metal Casting line of improvements are not altered, nor are civics. Sure you want some farms to help growth, a few mines in specific cities to be able to build a basic army, but it's not really that different to base BtS.

That said, I feel the same as Commodore that I don't like the trait changes.

OK, I've found the map I will be using. The settings are as follows:

Torusworld
Huge map
44% seas, Inland Ocean
100 tiles by 36 tiles
1 random improvement per 20 tiles
