Our warrior should probably scout the area near the gold and not circle around the capital. We need it soon for settler protection.

In fact, with a worker-settler plan instead of a worker-worker-settler plan it might make sense to pick up BW before pottery. Need to sim it out though, I'm away from my sandboxing equipment for another week.

If we go that plan, we might even want to delay Pottery, and start with Hunting -> Mining. But I think we might to move the settlement discussion into another thread (either Starting area or a new one for settling discussions), and keep this one free for the daily grind of turn reports and moving warriors.

We only switch to the corn after its farmed and we're size 2 in order to free up the deer for the cap. But honestly this is all very malleable and maybe the cap won't even need the deer back. The point is grow to 2 and stick a citizen on the gold asap.

Okay that makes sense. We generally want to work all food resources so that's probably the best move.

Geez, this is a tough decision. I can definitely see the logic in settling 1W of the corn, but giving up that sweet plains hill location is so painful.

How much would it hurt us to research mysticism earlier? Or alternatively, we could settle 1W of the gold, and just rely one the corn to supply all the food. Although it would be really nice to have the deer ready to go on the same turn the city gets planted, and settling 1W of the gold prevents that.

Another question to consider- how good is a gold mine, really? We're financial with lots of river tiles- a gold mine is only worth as much as two riverside hamlets (or three riverside cottages if you count maintenance). I don't think we need to rush to work the gold ASAP. Maybe we could settle 2W of the corn, and just work the deer, cows, and cottages for a while? Really annoying to lose the corn, though.

Novice if we stick to Hunting>Pottery>Mining>BW Mining should still be done by T27 meaning that even the early settler will give us enough time to get mining before we settle the second city.

Look back to PBEM 22 where I prioritized the gold. It started a huge snowball. The gold tile is really just amazing. And paired with the corn and deer means we have have a high enough food surplus to benefit from it continuously.

For me the gold is of course nice to have as tile that generates additional commerce once worked by citizens. However, maybe even more importantly, it allows the capital to grow to size 6 and get started on another cottage sooner!

That said, I am not sold on a worker-settler gamble, especially since we now know that someone went warrior first.
I'd rather have the warriors and eventually the roads in place to defend two cities.

Perhaps not if we do the super-early settler that Novice talks about. It is started on T15, and finished T25.

Just did a quick sim. We get the second city T28, and I ended up going Worker -> Warrior (unfinished) -> Settler (massive overflow) -> Warrior -> Worker in the capital.

The gold mine was improved on T34. I had time to finish a cottage in the capital, and the micro ended up perfectly, placing the worker on the gold mine the turn before Mining comes in.

The gold mine is improved on T33, and Adventure Two has been size 2 since T31.

Well that works out just fine then no? We weren't going to work the gold until size two anyway so that means only 2 turns that we're size two that we aren't working the gold. That looks pretty good but I'm not sure about the build order yet (warrior getting the overflow before 2nd worker).
