I don't see what point you are trying to make, because that has nothing to do with what the original point was.

I'm not trying to make a point. You've expressed doubt in the past about the value of ORG's civic maintenance reduction, and I wanted to give you some more data.

This conversation had previously been about up to turn 50, though the statement I made there was meant more generally. In our chat I then provided some data showing the civic upkeep to be quite relevant in the t50 timeframe due to rounding.

To follow up and as a curiosity, here is some data from later. Civic upkeep accounts for between half and a third of my total costs. (It looks like half, but of course I've built a few courthouses by now which should be factored out.) That's all.

I expressed doubt that ORG would save 1/3 of none-unit costs, and that screenshot doesn't convince me that you are right. Rome has much fewer cities than it should do IMO, which would lower the costs of distance and the number of cities. If you had followed a strategy that focussed on giving Rome every single city site possible then whilst ORG would be saving more money (Darius...), civics wouldn't be making 1/3 of those costs.

tl;dr: civic costs are a greater proportion of costs if you don't spam cities all over the place and instead focus on raising the happy cap and growing pop.

Question is better phrased: If you had taken Joao instead of Mehmed, would IMP have enabled you to grow faster such that Joao produced more net commerce than Mehmed (and then consider that there are other tangential benefits like getting pop earlier, safer to build GLH etc compared to the hammer savings on cheap buildings. And the denial of the Joao/whatever and Darius/HRE combo).

I'd comment on how that combo turned out, but that would be inappropriate as a lurker.

No i would not produced more comerce,and i produced Ch and lighose in near evry city so org beats Imp any day .And abouth GLH very bad decision that wonder dint worth the price..

I think the only thing appropriate for me to say is that at the time, you didn't know that there was a land bridge to the other "continent". So with the relevant information, the decision to build the GLH wasn't a bad one.
