You should be able to install Windows 7 on 2 GB of RAM.

I'm pretty sure Steam runs on Windows 8. Not sure what you mean about open source, that doesn't make sense.

In the video he said Win 8 won't run Steam, or any software not licensed, endorsed, with a stamp of approval from microsoft. I am assuming that means a lot of open source programs.
