Sounds good.

C) Do we want to see starting location before snake pick?
A) Sure, fairer than a mix of Scouts and Warriors anyway.
B) Suggest Monarch for a good balance, though don't really mind
C) I'd really rather not... it feels a bit artificial to peek at the board before you start playing and change who you were going to pick based on what you see.

Agreed, the mystery is part of the fun!

We have to wait for Dick anyway and perhaps we can get one more team to satisfy Lord Parkin's wishes for an epic game. I also think the more the merrier .
I'm keen to see our starting location too... after the game starts. Let's not spoil the surprise.

The reason you should consider seeing starting screenshots prior to doing a snake pick is because of the effect of starting techs on the effectiveness of a start. If you do not know what food resources you need to hook up, the conservative tech to take is always Agriculture, as this opens up AH if you have a pasture resource, and it the joint most expensive starting tech. Fishing is sometimes chosen, but most seafood starts are actually significantly slower than going worker first, to the extent that it's actually very common for players to move away from fish start and spend several turns looking for a land based food resource and still having a more developed empire by turn 40. However, if you know you have a fish at the start, it makes it much safer to pick a civ that doesn't start with Agriculture.
If you do not see the start before doing the snake pick, the generally accepted view is that you MUST pick a civilization with Agriculture to have the safest, fastest start, and this seriously limits the amount of strong civs. However, if you do see the starts, if you have a pasture resource you can choose to start with Hunting instead, and still be able to reach AH in a reasonable time frame, or start with Fishing if you see seafood, which dramatically increases the amount of good civs.

Just in case someone is reading this thread who might be interested: We have a player gone AWOL in Pitboss 11 who has dropped all communication, and as each day goes by it's looking more certain that we need a permanent replacement.
It's a greens game for less experienced online players. If you've played in multiple PB and PBEM games over years, and won, this game isn't for you.
If you want to dive right into the deep end, you get a chance to take over an empire that is first place in score, just past turn 100, with an experiened Ded-lurker to ease the transition. See more info here.

I replied to this in the relevant thread.
Lord_Parkin: I think your point 9 is actually point 8 in more words.
Also, I would like to play at Monarch. Not speaking for Classical_Hero.

Doesn't that really come under number 8?

Yeah, I have noticed that some of you guys seem to have very precise ideas of what being a jerk means in civ terms. So please do share with the poor noobies like me, that would prefer to have these thigs spelled out clearly, not to become a jerk accidentally .

As I said, I would really appreciate if we would specify more what being a jerk actually means - I see no harm in that, it will just be easier for everybody and we will know we are all on the same page.
