Can you believe I solved this by shifting it forward one at a time until I got something? duh

Darrell

Hey Darrell, there is a job opening if you want to apply for it.

The job is to be my personal assistant, responsibilities are to upload the videos from Twitch to Youtube, and transcribe the videos into usable turn reports to post on the blog. As an Electrical Engineer earning about $150K/year you may just about have the required qualifications to do the job acceptably, but because this jobs pays fuck all you might want to keep your day job.

Note that Krill stated that one of the reasons why you're qualified for the job is that you're an EE making $150k a year. So if you quit your job then you are no longer qualified.

Declare war on Pindicator this turn. Problem is that I can't do that until after he has played, so it looks like I can't do that until tomorrow frown

(attacking novice is a no go, I won't get much out of it beyond capturing Miller).

Can't watch the stream, being at work and all. Maybe I'll catch up with it tonight. I'm curious what made you decide this, though:

Because any war against novice required a specific set of actions to succeed.

  1. I had to capture Miller for limited losses
  2. I had to artist bomb and get 1 tile west to get access to Mercator and Lambert
  3. I had to raze at least one of Mercator or Lambert.
  4. I had to then move units to capture the two northern cities.

The problem with this, is that for the northern cities to be functional I had to at least raze or capture Lambert (So really, Mercator becomes a bonus and I had no choice on which city I aimed to take from novice). this is how novice could stop me from doing all of this, and novice only had to do one of these things to make the war a none starter.

  1. Cause significant loss at Miller, either via large garrison or having a stack of HA to throw at me once I moved in. novice's power suggested to me he had well over 6 HA in a stack defending (it went up rapidly at one point after he got HBR and then stopped, which suggested the construction of a HA stack).
  2. Kept culture on the banana. Last turn novice put 19 culture onto the banana, I put 29. he is just about holding it, partly because he triggered a GA and went into Caste (so could be running artists). This meant I would have to take a further turn to reach Miller, giving novice more time to get a defense in place to make it more expensive for me to take the city, if I even could take that city.
  3. A ;large enough defensive garrison in Lambert. I am attacking Pindicator with about 20 HA. I would have to use at least half of these in any attack on Miller (to kill units), so he only needed about 5 units, 2 of which are spears, and I have...unreasonable odds of taking Lambert.

There are other reasons that attacking novice isn't that great a choice, but the real advantage of attacking Pindicator is that I can still attack novice from his far south; he has less culture in that area so an artist bomb should do more damage and make it easier to run in my HA to take a city or two. Yes, they will not be wonder cities, but it would still slow novice down a bit. And frankly, Pindicator has the lowest power in the game so I'm less likely to use any units attacking him. I will still get land, which I need because I'm stuck at 10 cities with no additional space to expand to, Pindicator does have a holy city I can capture, he has resources I don't have...and it is taking land away that novice might want to take.

My aims for attacking Pindicator, well, I'll write that stuff later.
