That's a really good description of the game. Civ4 is very much goal-focused, where you want to milk every scrap of opportunity out of every single turn. Good play depends on scrabbling for every scrap of turn advantage you can muster up.
To weak players who have been raised on single player RTS campaigns and grindfest RPGs, where the computerised opposition doesn't even attempt to turn their early advantages into a snowball, Civ5 probably holds greater appeal than high level Civ4 play.

Gaspar Wrote:Pretty much the primary thought I get when reading the reports, particularly Dave who seems to be the most "up" on current strategies is that as opposed to Civ4 where you make things happen, in Civ5 stuff happens to you.
Maybe that's an oversimplification, but its definitely how I read what's been written.
Had to laugh given the current WW game. In Soviet Russia civ happens to you?

Is it more correct to say:
In Soviet Russia, Civ play YOU!!
I guess ASM's signature doesn't apply to Civ 5.

I've been trying to follow this PBEM. Really, I have. But I just can't get into it. The more I look at CiV, the more I don't like the graphics so it's not enjoyable to look at and nothing interesting is happening in game. I realize it's still really early so i'm hoping for something to heat up when the players finally meet.

Just as a counter I do actually like the graphics in this version more than 4, Although I agree the gameplay in 4 is better

The graphics are fine, if anything they're just a bit cluttered, and it's hard to tell if a tile is flat or hilly. Not that the tiles matter though!

Strategic view is great, the only criticism is that desert rivers (aka floodplains) look terrible, the icons are huge and cluttering and out of place considering it's only a feature, not a resource.

Will be interesting to see how he responds to my planned city. My guess is with soldiers.
