My MM is better than your MM

Jesus christ I would not balk against getting a 5/0/3 tile.

Alright, I will drop the suggestion. In case there is a good food resource by the sugar (will be revealed by the warrior going on a hill NE), I do think we should consider settling there. How about AH before Pottery, though? I also suggest moving the scout on the deer, to check for extra resources in that area in case we want to share the deer tile with our second city.

I'm also curious about why AH first after hunting wouldn't be better.

Pottery first: Cottage nearly as fast as possible for commerce advantage lasting forever. Better tile for the capital to work if food is transferred to grow the 2nd city. Can chop granary immediatly for second city, and start it in the capital very early.

AH first: Working the extra +3F early is going to be valuable without losing early commerce at all because of the river. Second city site can be informed by horse. We're going hunting first anyway so we get the discount.

AH is viable, it's just not what I would do: Pottery first means you can cottage more than 1 tile, AH doesn't allow that, and enables a granary for better growth anyway: growth with granary and a +4 food surplus is equivalent to growth of +8fpt without the granary. Of course, you have to build the granary which is the main point of contention.

If you go AH>Pottery you delay BW for chops and slaves. OTOH, if horse is discovered at the capital (I seriously doubt that for balance reasons) then AH is pretty much a solid choice.

I have a vague feeling I'm being trolled a little lol

How about AH => BW => Pottery? Granaries are not useful as long as you're building workers and settlers, and we'll be doing that a lot during this time frame. We also don't have EXP for half cost granaries, else I'd be all for getting them sooner. Chopping is great at normal speed, so BW should definitely be prioritized. In my sim I was building a mine after the pasture, seems pretty good value while cranking out workers and settlers.

Granaries are useful for slaving though. If the city can make +5fpt, you never build workers or settlers, always slave them.

And I don't see any nearby early happy resources, so we might as well put our excess population to good use.

My general thoughts would be to get Writing no later than 6th and try to get an early Academy out to power through to Calendar for an "early" 2 happiness, fitting in Priesthood when needed.
