[SPOILERS] Serdoas and Nobles Thread with a little bit of Gaspar sprinkled in

That also led to changes in our game-plan (Emancipation at Guilds... wohoo...), which in turn led to researched techs we didn't need. That's also frustrating.

Can you expand on this part, about things that are missing from the change log? Some things, like the cost of Moai or settled GGs giving 3 XP, are bugs. Have you found other things that need fixing or (if they were intended) documenting?

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Emancipation is at Guilds now? That's a surprise to me, I think remember even Krill saying, some time ago, that it was still at Banking.

But as for other changes... if you posted more, the lurkers could probably help with that... also, like Xenu was saying, the Moai and GG bugs were posted in the tech thread some time ago.

For what its worth, and only based on that demos screen, I think your position in-game is very very good still.

We should ask Elkad for OB straight up. Apparently the city he captured from REM is directly north of the city we border. Which also means that REM's border city with us is completely surrounded.

No Banking is right. I miswrote.

@Noble: I can do that, but I think it was Elkad who offered us OB several times in exchange for gold, so he probably won't take it.

Yeah but we never counteroffered for straight OB because we didn't think we had a route to him, so maybe he thinks we just don't want OB. It's clear that we have a route now so might as well try.

Timer is back to normal so we need to play today.

Gavagai seems to be at war with Krill again. At least he's good for something if he's going to block people.

It's clear that at least half the players in this game don't actually want to play it.

And no Krill, your mod does not somehow prevent games from ending in ignominy and masochism.

Every game after your first one requires masochism just to join. Ignominy optional

I don't know what ignominy is, but for this game I understand that some might not have that much enthusiasm left. The leader has 727 points, the next one (us) 613 and Krill is third at 600. That is already quite a difference between 1 and 2,3, but we are 1 GA behind, so we might be able to close that gap a little bit. However, looking at the end of the score-board:

* HitAnyKey Pacal II Maya 451 Offline
* Adrien Mahatma Gandhi India 443 Offline
* Barteq Montezuma Aztec 438 Offline
* Borsche Ragnar Vikings 433 Offline
* NylesStandish Hammurabi Babylon 393 Offline
* Molach Boudica Celtia 389 Offline
* Elkad Franklin D. Roosevelt America 389 Offline
* AT Genghis Khan Mongolia 299 Offline
* tsargon Cyrus Persia 211 Offline

260 to 500 points behind? That's more or less insurmountable by your own doing, even if score alone is not the best indicator for position. Basically all these players have to hope that those at the top - and not just one, but at least the first 5 - all fuck up. If not, they can't win. And honestly, Civ4, especially in the later turns, is a demanding game. Its fun to put the time and thought into in when you feel you can win. But when you know that your own doing is not going to make the difference, most will just start to play fast and loose imo. Can't really fault them either.

Couldn't disagree with your second sentence more - I find it demanding and stressful as long as I think I can win, then it gets fun and rewarding when I realise I can't and just try to take revenge on whoever it was that knocked over my sandcastle...

My guess is that most of the folks who signed up for this game had no intention of winning, they just wanted to build a nice empire in a big event game and get talked about by the lurkers. Ignominy and masochism FTW!
