Unhasted Soul with no Mobility has an effective range of 4 tiles, half of which are covered by flight. Add haste, Mobility and this grows to 6, half of which is spent in flight. This makes Barduk easily in range from within his borders.

How exactly do Divided Souls work?

They have a spell-like ability that summons a two-move, flying elemental ( soul ). The soul can immediately move anywhere and can in turn teleport the summoner to the tile it's on preserving all the promotions, active spells and unused movement. So it's quite easy to say haste the Divided Soul, summon the elemental, move it forward, resummon the soul and move it forward in turn. This, on unrestricted leaders, can be possibly as scary as raider horse ( Tasunke of Sidar ) and even more difficult to check as souls can jump over road blocking stacks.

Additional benefit of a soul is the fact that the elemental is in fact a regular unit. It can trigger dungeons, while Soul waits somewhere safe. It also benefits from Tower of Elements, becoming a disposable S1 combat summon :]

Uh, you can only summon the soul once per turn, no? Or are they permanent summons?

Once per turn per Divided Soul. And yes, it's a temporary summon, but another fun fact - they work with Summoner trait. So playing Sidar with a Summoner leader makes them stick for 3 turns.

Scratch the last bit, it does not work with Summoner banghead There's a hardwired override somewhere. And it can also rob graveyards, but not explore lairs for some weird reason.

Well, that makes sense. It's kind of supposed to be the unit's soul, shouldn't have more than one of them, Summoner or not. lol
