When deleting a thread, you should see an option to "Physically remove" it, as opposed to a "Soft delete" which leaves a shell behind that can be undeleted.

I didn't get given that option. Probably for the best, really.

You probably need to be given access to that option specifically, I had that problem on the Master of Magic subforum earlier.

That said, I think you can delete all the posts in a thread including the first post. Once you do that, the empty shell for "Deleted thread was here" is only seen by moderators (and me/Sullla) and not other users. At least I think so.

Global Lurkers can see all five team forums. All requests will be approved, so just sign up.  (Apologies for this step, but it wasn't easily possible to ban team members from other forums without doing this. The greater point is that unregistered accounts can't see the forums, which prevents accidental cheating by the team players by browsing while logged out.)
