Also, Coeurva's thread is a great reminder of why full diplo is a horrible idea. Stew all you want, it's a turn based game, you're up.
[no players] Six little newbies sitting on a tree...

I would actually consider pushing deeper with the stack and threatening core, but that's why I shouldn't be playing actual games. Charriu has actually mentioned his play; conquer RFS' coastal cities and build the GLH . I think he's forgotten it by now though. Coeur is clearly sharking at this point . Bump this man out of the newbie leagues, it'll be good for his soul.

39 is reaching end game, this is a newbies game that won't last more than 2 months unless interrupted and PB38 will grind on for the big players.
It's almost September, so I think another game will probably start being discussed in November, map design December and start January. That'd probably be another large game though, as PB38 will be around 80 turns further along by then. I wonder if a Classical era game would get any traction? We could run an anonymous game now. We have the technology.
We'd need a public yet locked forum, which only mods could post in, and which did not show poster activity. All players would have to send their posts to a mod who then posts it in the relevant spoiler thread. There would need to be a private forum for the lurker thread, available to any none player that requests access. We'd also need to reuse the PB18 civstats replacement, and alter that to not show log in names, only civs and if they had ended turn or not. We'd have to remove the logging of the data regarding when someone had logged and for how long, and probably have to remove the data regarding mid turn score changes. Unless there was a way to only display the mid turn score change data after turn roll, and on a time insensitive basis ie after turn rolled, each civs score changes were in the turn roll data. But if we did that, we could finally play an anonymous game.
And he's not touching the gold mine. That's confusing. It's completely shattered Coeur's psyche, though. His dictator-in-a-bunker rambling is kind of funny. Shallow isn't nearly as powerful as he thinks, and given the nerfed stone, even if he did land a 10 city Hanging Gardens (not ever mentioned), that's barely break-even.
Magic Science is currently rocking 10(!) riverside cottages. That'll be big going forward.

And see his refusal to even mention Charriu's 30% victory of chariot vs archer, that allowed him to kill an axe too. And meanwhile OT4E is trying to figure out wtf is going on. This game has a way of bringing out the aggressive territorial instinct in people. Great map for drama, as it turns out!
The game is fantastic. Magic and Cairo are also now in a full on, excited My First Backstab planning mode, all against a guy who they KNOW can't trust them. I just hope superdeath is trying to pull a similar bait-and-switch.
As for Couerva's psyche, even from PB37 if was clear that psychological robustness is the area that needs the most work, even more than figuring out a focused mid-game strategy, and an ability to commit to a decisive plan. I would even say the former is probably connected to the latter. |
