Water tiles next to land just means coast tiles. That would be practically identical to the BtS colossus - it wouldn't really be compatible with FIN3+.

How about letting the Colossus add extra gold generation to merchant specialists (like the added hammer to priests with Angkor Wat)?

I think the current Colossus is fine. I don't think it should obsolete at Astronomy though.

I agree the colossus is fine. neutral on obsolescence.

Hm OK, I won't worry too much about the colossus.

What about making the colossus put a wharf in every city? That captures the effect of the old BTS colossus, doesn't give the colossus civ unique access to 4-commerce-coast with financial since other civs can build wharfs, but also doesn't give the colossus civ 5-commerce-coast by stacking col+wharf.

Thoughts?

I think it would be too powerful, and for a FIN civ it's a must-get wonder like that.

Is there an easy way to make the commerce from Collosus work like golden-age commerce and not trigger the fin +1? That would get rid of the overly synergistic relationship between Tides-fin and the col, returning to the bts situation where the col commerce is never the critical step to hit the fin+1 commerce threshold.

I agree. My immediate reaction was that if the Colossus is people's biggest gripe with this mod, then it's in pretty good shape. It could be situationally very strong, particularly on very small maps, so maybe obsolescence is needed as a safety valve. So I guess when in doubt, stick with how it is in BtS, and let it expire at Astronomy.
If you know what I mean.

I like the implementation of the Collosus; always enjoyed how it was done in civ 3 and this is fairly similar. If the obsolescence is a problem I don't see why it could be pushed back to Corporation or something.
