Hah, yeah 50 players is a pipe dream. A nice, relaxed, 25 player game seems the way to go.

If this turns out to be a large-scale game, I'll join so that someone can conquer me and grow their empire. Wouldn't want to play if there were less than 15 players though.

Man, some low expectations here! Anything can happen in a pitboss this big, dont count yourself out!

As to management of large-scale empires, I would be interested in a variant (perhaps for another time), where significant conquered rulers have the option to become vassals and maintain the right to micromanagement in their part of the larger empire. Or any variant, which brings on "regional" rulers for larger empires.
