You could be a nice vassal or the type to stab him in the back at the end of the day. :]

To be fair, I have definitely not ruled this out.

Different scoring systems and player ratings actually do exist for this game.
In actual over the board play, a real 18 SC win is extremely rare )seems that's not necessarily the case online), and there are many different opinions of what matters if you can't win.
The Chicago group I play with has had four 18 SC wins in hundreds of games. They have a formula for non winners score based on position and place.
Other places consider anyone who has at least 1 SC a co winner if the game becomes drawn, and all survivors score equally.
Still others consider it one winner (or possibly more if two people tie for the most SC when a game is called) and everyone else a loser.
I seriously doubt RB is going to get into Diplomacy enough to care about having a scoring system, so, really, what matters if you can't win is kind of a personal choice.

Well, I decided to "stab" Uberfish after all. It's not really a significant feat or anything, but it does let me live longer than if I told him I was playing defense, so that's cool I guess. He is no longer able to take 2 centers from me since London will be covered and so is Edinburgh. Part of the deal was that he wouldn't convoy, which is a nice break.
I think there's almost no way that I'm going to let Rowain have Portugal since I can just bounce him. I can just cut a deal with him that says he orders Gas-Par (cutting support) and then I'll take Brest instead, but I'd rather just keep Portugal at this point because that route doesn't involve me having to trust Rowain :P.
So what does this mean for me? I'm going to be down Norway, and other than that I'll still be alive and kicking - in a manner of speaking anyways. I may take a shot at re-taking the North Sea (Ska-Nth with Eng support). That may fail though if he just supports with Denmark because I can't afford to support with Nwg (Edi would be wide open to retreat to). I'm going to have to figure out what unit to disband this year, so I'm really not sure which one to go for, which could play into my plans. On the other hand, I'd really like to take a swing at Belgium, but the odds of it being empty is low.
It all depends on what he decides to do with North Sea though. Because honestly, the wisest move for him may just be to hold there. I'm retreating Norway to Skaggerak, and because of that, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark have to stay put unless he wants to risk Skaggerak waltzing into one of them. I could play it risky and order Ska-Nor with Nwg support, but that seems like too big a risk that could be averted by simply ordering Swe Supp Nor (which, what else does Sweden have to do anyways?).
Sorry, simply thinking out loud here.

Can you retreat to the tile from which he attacked?
I have to run.

Yes. You just cannot retreat to a tile that had a standoff/bounce on that turn. If I had ordered Norway->Skaggerak for example, I think (not sure) Skaggerak would be off-limits for me.

Sareln just messaged me and said he messed up, and that my only options are retreat to Barents or disband. Apparently I was wrong in my understanding of the written rules, so that limits my options considerably. Too bad.

Well I just sent this to Rowain. Not sure if he'll actually get it on time for the orders to be processed though:
scooter Wrote:What are your thoughts on the following:
1. You order Spa-Por this Fall
2. You help me into Brest by ordering Gas-Par, cutting support so that I can take Brest.
This would result in:
Rowain: +1 SC
scooter: -1 SC
Uberfish: +0 SC (as opposed to +1 by taking Norway)
Given that you are in position to pick up a SC in the east, that would mean a +2 for you while Uberfish is (finally) unable to build, and I'll have a decent force to continue fighting Uberfish next turn.
The alternative is that I could bounce Portugal, which looks more like
Rowain: +0 SC
scooter -1 SC
Uberfish: +1 SC
Which I don't think is desirable at all for either of us... Thoughts? My proposal allows the status quo with me and Uberfish (a positive thing as it slows him down) and it benefits you. Burgundy->Marseilles is possibly a threat, but Belgium->Yorkshire will almost for-sure happen, meaning Burgundy will need to cover either Munich or Belgium as he just can't afford to leave them both open like that.

Rowain said no for that previous email, but he WAS supposed to bounce me in Portugal and then decided not to at the last minute. Okay.
Also trying to decide whether to disband Portugal or Barents.

Also, what on earth is Lewwyn doing??? He was in a position that was just as good as uberfish's (possibly even better), and it looks like he's throwing it away?? He had Russia in a choke-hold just like Uberfish has had me in for quite some time, and now he's going to hand land over to Russia?
Wish uberfish wouldn't done that for me.
