We finally captured Dragonball Z. Sian has one city left, defended by 2 Jans at the moment. But with 60% culture and on a hill, it will be a few turns before we take it out and can concentrate on joining a war against NS7. Or settling overseas land, if there is any left unclaimed, we're last to Astronomy after all

Not much going on. We're regrouping units to get the last Sian's city. Mackoti got a great general, so battles in his war with NS7 are not completely one-sided. Not that it has any effect on NS7's crazy power rating

Sian is finally dead. The question is, what next?

We can grow cities in Sian's land and try to play economically
We can join the dogpile against NS7
Or we can attack someone else

The map

I guess Magenta dot is the best city in Sian's undeveloped land. It will have to win a culture war against NS7's (formerly Sian's) city to get a food resource. But I don't see a better option

GNP

[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0428.JPG]

Our economy is actually doing ok. Look at how low NS7's GNP is though. I guess they're mostly working State Property-powered workshops now

Power

[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0429.JPG]

Um... would attacking NS7 be a good idea?

Civics

[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0430.JPG]

No chance of a golden age any time soon, our GP production is non-existent. And I just realised I made a huge blunder not adopting Buddhism when I had a chance... so Theocracy didn't actually do anything! That's really bad frown

Spent some time staring at the turn and thinking what to do. Here is what I came up with

I don't like getting involved in another war right now. We need to settle Sian's land and develop cities, at least to the bare minimum (Forge and Library everywhere, Forbidden Palace somewhere). We have 16 'phracts left, they won't be able to do much against NS7, and attacking anyone else would only give NS7 more breathing space

So, I think the best option for us for now is to play econ while preparing for another war. A powerful navy will be the key, otherwise NS7's Galleons will just crush us. We can limit land units for now, as they're going to become obsolete relatively soon. I would still build some Longbows to be on the safe side, but economic development is going to be vital

The key techs are, in the order of research
* Chemistry (due in 2 turns, start pumping out Frigates)
* Printing Press
* Nationalism (Nationhood is likely to be the end game civic in this game)
* Steel (and start building a ton of Cannons)
* Railroad
* Rifling

As for civics, I think we can stay where we are for now. I can get a GP from Constantinople in 5 turns, while building National Epic in Laudica, then getting a GP from there as quickly as possible. I expect we will be able to start the next GA in 10t at most. Then we will switch to Bureau/OR for the duration of the GA, adopt Buddhism, and at the end of the GA switch to Nationhood/Theocracy. Later on we will probably want to adopt Universal Suffrage or Police State, State Property and possibly Emancipation, but that's too far away to think about it - we may die sooner smile

Agreed. This latest round of wars gives me hope, I want Seven and Mack to bog each other down. Yes, Seven is still ahead, but his lead isn't that great and it may be hard for him to reach a victory condition. I don't expect Mack to fold easily. And yeah, a fleet of ships that can destroy a tile Seven tries to stage from will be essential. Post a screen of the techs everyone has.

Do we have any deals with Luddicator? I say sign some to indicate that we want to be friendly with them. They're still ahead of us because they absorbed Fierce easier than we absorbed Sian.

Also, post some pics of our entire empire and our economy. Also, chop the forest Dyr's granary, I want to grow onto those juicy Towns that Sian was nice enough to grow for us smile.

Finally, it may be worth settling Magenta dot 1S, to decrease the number of boatable cities. Shame about the fish, but Seven has a head start. So, farm Magenta, and use it as a hammer city.

I sent scouts into the ocean, but they didn't find anything interesting yet, just a bunch of one-tile islands

The only deal we have with Luddicator is that strange horse for horse trade. I offered them incense for free

Don't agree with moving Magenta 1S. Out of our 21 cities, only 4 are non-coastal, adding one more doesn't matter much. 1S has no food resources (rice doesn't count, it's the only food resource in Dragonball Z), I think it's a much weaker location

Also, game mechanics question: can ships enter a fort on a hill? If yes, we should consider forting two tiles near Mai Hime for a canal
Reply

Forts next to a water tile are the same as cities next to a water tile.

Dragon Ball Z has the clams. I still think off-coast is better as we're not getting the fish any time soon and the fewer cities that get razed by NS7 (remember, they have nearby cities to stage from!), the better. Your point it may not matter counts, but remember that NS7 is up against the rest of the world.

And yeah, forting the tiles around Mai Hime can make a canal.

And when I thought NS7 wasn't that far ahead? I was wrong lol!

Edit: And is Nicaea working unimproved tiles? Better fix those or turn them into specialists. Also, I say we go for Representation instead of Universal Sufferage, we're not running a cottage economy here.
