Pacal of the Indians: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Fast Worker

WarriorKnight Wrote:I think I may favor Leadership. He's going to hopefully do a ton of battles, and double experience should mean he can get to morale fairly easily, as well as any other promotions (for when we upgrade him if nothing else). On the other hand if were not expecting to be attacked but having to trudge through Leewyn's megastack in Beijing (quite likely given we have MG's and they have nothing better then muskets), then Morale may be better since we may not get the experience in the MG's.

My experience in Final Frontier (which has a +50% XP promo available from T0 and 0XP) is that the +XP promotion is rarely worth it: you'd need to get TWO extra promotions off of the 100% XP boost for it to pay off (otherwise it's a wash), and how many kills would it take for that to happen? 20?

Yes, we can push it up another turn. The first tile we move the stack onto is flatland, so the musketeers, along with my last couple knights, can stage and move two spaces the following turn to join the stack. We can't invade on t184, but we can invade on t185 - reaching the gates of the city on t190.

Good catch WK.

Cool. Wait isn't t184 next turn? yikes

Shoot, you may as well move all the units to avoid any problems, so I'll leave my stack unmoved when I play the turn so you can move it. I will, however, want to kill some stuff once we reach Beijing. hammer

On the other hand, it may not make much of a difference, since the two border tiles are going to flip next turn since Leewyn finally has more culture then us there:

Maybe we should've moved out this turn instead. Oh well.

20 isn't actually that absurd of a number in our situation. If Leewyn were to use all his cats and CKN's on us (which he should, since they give collateral) I'd say that would almost reach 20, and given that it'll be Drill IV we can probably take on all those units at once. I agree in most cases though it isn't worth it.

EDIT: I misread your post earlier, invading on t185 it is.

No, t184 is too soon. We invade on t185

If we go in on t184, we won't be able to use the 31 units from me en route, about 1/6 of our force.

Btw, I know it probably goes without saying, but to whichever one of us ends up moving the units, a note:

WHAT IF I WANT TO PROMOTE SOMETHING ELSE? YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!

(Sorry, couldn't help it.)
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Two thoughts. First, Lewyyn's culture has been more than mine on those tiles previously and the tiles haven't flipped yet. No idea how that mechanic actually works, but it has been weird so far so hopefully it will continue.

In regards to the MG, I'm not a huge fan of leadership. Leadership +2 promos is essentially the breakeven point; leadership +3 promos is the minimum to be advantageous. I don't see us getting up to an 8 promo unit, even with leadership.

Tile flips due to culture happen between the end of TX and start of TX+1.

On a side note, I believe this is the first time - to my knowledge at least - that you have posted in someone's spoiler thread and were not explaining a game mechanic or correcting a misapprehension.
