Turn 23 - 3080BC

Warrior exploration revealed another floodplains tile in the southwest, and the potential for more land down there than we initially expected. We will see a lot of tiles when we move onto the grassland hill next turn. Cross your fingers for some kind of useful resource; on that grassland hill would be an awesome place for our third city, if there's something else there. (On the coast for possible Great Lighthouse purposes, at least three floodplains for Financial, close enough to be easily defensible, etc.)

We also had our second worker finish this turn; this should be the earliest anyone has gotten a second worker. The new guy finished the road on the plains tile, and the first worker began cottaging the floodplains. That cottage will finish on T25. Adventure One will grow and produce another warrior in three turns, on T26.

We should be safe from anyone wandering into our capital. If an enemy warrior showed up this turn, we can move NE-NE back into our capital in time to get there. If they show up next turn, we have a warrior finishing in time on T26. Hopefully we'll continue to see nothing for the moment.

Micro plan has us working the plains hill again to complete the warrior before growth to size 3. Let me know if this is not correct.

We don't look so hot in the Demos at the moment, due to researching the no-prerequisite Mining tech and using the plains hill tile. Things should improve a lot over the next 10 turns; we start to take off as a civ between T30 and T40.

Elsewhere, Apolyton grew to size 4, CivPlayers grew to size 3, and CivFr received land points by virtue of being a Creative civ. We will get the same land points in two more turns. Apolyton is almost certainly starting a second worker or a settler this turn. They probably should do another worker first (or else they won't be able to keep up with tile improvement labor) but I wouldn't be surprised to see a settler. We'll know eventually based on when they settle their second city.

Micro looks OK - I included a sign for working a forest grass on T25.

I checked the plains forest tile 1W of the warrior - it's dry. The grass hill is wet.

I took the liberty to name our second worker Banana, since no-one stepped up with a good numeric naming scheme.

I think CivFr might have finished a second worker too, unless they went Worker-Warrior-Settler. If they started a worker, they did so on T17, and they have 12F/14F 2H from their corn and deer. Ie, they can get a worker the same turn as us, or a settler on T26-27 or so.

I really don't like naming workers after resources, as stated before. Better to have them unnamed in that case. Otherwise it just calls for misunderstandings down the line.

Turn 24 - 3040BC

We finally have some new map information to analyze:

The grassland hill revealed a lot of tiles, including a clams resource out in the fog. Based on the very limited map knowledge that we have now, red dot seems like an obvious location for our third city. Three tiles from capital but only two tiles of overlap, easily defensible (on a hill), on a river and on the coast, clams, four floodplains tiles, four more riverside tiles, and so on. The biggest downside is the lack of forests - this would be a tough spot to produce Great Lighthouse without choppable material. Maybe, maybe not. It's still the obvious best spot from what we've seen thus far (after the Mansa's Muse spot, of course).

We are still working the same tile configuration as last turn. Workers are in the process of cottaging the first floodplains tile. Growth to size 4 and second warrior are due in 2t.

No score changes this turn from anyone! Probably one of the last times we'll ever see that. I have not ended turn yet, but I will before I go to sleep later tonight.

I like that spot a lot. And I think we should definitely settle it early. But here's the question: How much do we want the GLH?

If we're going to make the GLH a priority I think we need to consider our GLH city to be settled 1 East of the fish on the desert next to our cap. That placement gives us an initial 3 forests to chop into the city and when border pop another 2. This also gives the city a chance to steal the corn from the capital and grow from the first turn while it builds a WB for the fish. The capital can simply work all the cottages we're getting into play while this city is getting up and running. We probably whip the lighthouse and then chop the 5 forests into the GLH. I think this is likely the fastest and safest (in terms of it getting sniped from under us) way to get the GLH. The city placement also allows the city to work the lake next to the cap with a lighthouse.

Now the question is if we decide the GLH is important and this spot is a good spot for the GLH city, do we settle it as our 3rd city site?

Personally, I say yes, but I'd love to hear some feedback on this.

I think that is the best spot to settle in the area anyway. But is the GLH all that important? I'm not sure.

I also don't like the idea of building the GLH on this map. Not enough coastal sites, too many inland sites, and it forces everyone else to start thinking in terms of "should we be friends with team RB?"

(The answer is no)

On the other hand, that piece of land in the fog far to the west looks like it could be an island.

Here are the two spots being discussed:

The southern location looks vastly superior to me in everything except number of forests to chop. I would not suggest going for the northern spot unless we have a lot more motivation than simply Great Lighthouse. We have no idea if we'll be able to build the wonder even if we settle there, we have no idea if Great Lighthouse will even be useful on this map, and a city to the north would be pretty crummy for the rest of the game even if we did land the wonder.

Of course we still can't see horses or copper, and that could change things a lot, but I honestly think the southern spot is FAR superior between these two.
