I think the verdict is in.

Maybe we should post a close-up of the lion and the Youtube in the public reporting thread over on CFC?

That's the decider, if it means we need to fortify for another 5 turns, that gives 5 turns for something nasty to spawn in the northeast.

We're already playing it risky with the farmer's gambit, best to play it safe elsewhere.

Yeah I see no reason to walk into the lion. Just send him northeast straight away.

Turn 26 - 2960BC

The team has spoken - our warriors are taking the safer route.

Both warriors moved northeast this turn. I put the path of our new warrior in white text on the image above. Along hill tiles the next few turns, over to fogbust on the forested hill tile, and then down onto the Mansa's Muse tile itself on T32. The other warrior's planned route is in yellow. Once they are both on those two hill tiles on T30, we should have tons of vision on the whole area. We can also move onto nearby forest tiles if we want to bait an animal into attacking ahead of time. We'll see. Use this as the general plan and then make alterations as needed depending on what comes up.

Our workers both moved a tile east and started our second floodplains cottage. It will be done in two more turns. Started on settler (7 turns) in the capital. We grew to size 4 this turn:

We may or may not be the first to three improved tiles, I'm not sure. We almost certainly should be the first to four improved tiles - the other teams that grew to size 4 didn't stop to build a second worker. In similar fashion, we aren't going to be the first team to plant a second city (Mansa's Muse will be founded T34 if all goes according to plan). But we'll be working all improved tiles everywhere, and our economy should be tops in the world.

Demographics starting to show this already:

First in Food and one point of commerce off of the GNP lead despite researching no-prerequisites Mining tech. Any pre-requisite tech puts us into first place in GNP. Very interesting that one team has 9 Production this early though. Almost certainly one of the teams that rushed Mining tech and built mines with their worker(s). One poor team only has 9 food. I would be kind of worried already if that was me.

I was certain you'd advocate feeding me to the lion. lol I may yet survive to 1500 BC! (Also I agree with the move already made, no reason to risk it to scout the tile when we can get it later).

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Turn 27 - 2920BC

We may actually get in a very fast turn here. I was one of the last ones to play and I hit the turn with 38 hours left.

Moving onto the forested hill tile revealed a panther two spaces away. I am not sure if the panther will attack us or not; I'm not sure if the animals "see" player units two spaces away, of if they have to be next to them. Forested plains hill will give a massive combat bonus if attacked, so barring something insanely unlucky we should be fine here.

The other warrior moved up a tile into the capital, and the workers continued cottaging the second floodplains tile. Cottage and Mining tech done next turn.

Elsewhere, CivFanatics grew to size 5 (they only have one worker so labor supply is nowhere near sufficient to keep up with city growth) and the German team researched Mining tech. More importantly, CivFr founded their second city very close to their capital, a mere three tiles away. CivFr has a capital at size 2, and does not have a second worker. They traded early growth for a very fast second city. CivFr also did a very sneaky job of trying to hide their city, planting it mere seconds after the turn rolled, and thus not appearing as a separate entry on CivStats. Only C&D work showed what had taken place.

It's also a sign that they know full and well how to abuse the clock rules. CivFr waited until everyone else had played, moved their settler, ended turn, then planted city in the first seconds of the new turn. Expect to see clock disputes in the months ahead.

Addendum: that's also a terrible name for a warrior. I am not typing "... and the law won" every time I reference that unit. Can we come up with something a little more simple?
