Yeah, it's actually easier for the Plako and Seven to create a good map the more tools you give them. If you were to say "The map has to be on X map script, Y difficulty, players have 2*5 food resources and copper, horses, iron and horses within 7 tiles of the start location..." it starts getting difficult to create the map without hand crafting every single tile.
EDIT: It's actually better to describe the kind of game play you want ie that you want to play on a map where naval warfare is relevant, or want to play a larger map to enable more peaceful, builder games. Then trust the competent map makers to go and make/find and edit the map that gives you the game you want. Don't get me wrong, you couldn't do this with Joe Bloggs whom has no experience of CIV, but with Plako and Seven you are in safe hands.

Very good thoughts, Krill
Personally I think I'd like to leave it all in plako/7's hands, as it's more fun and challenging to be surprised by the map. As you say, we're talking about some very competent map makers here, so I feel very safe we'll get a good map no matter what they want to present us with.

Difficulty is generally Monarch/Cylindrical, or Prince/Toroidial. I honestly can't remember a flat game.
Wonders aren't generally banned by mapmakers.

Surely nobody would take a trip so far back down memory lane as to play on a flat map?

There are set ups where a flat map can be useful (2, 4 or 8 party games specifically).

Hmm, don't think I've seen a game before where one of the players started the Lurker thread. I just hope she isn't getting email notifications
We need to figure out a good naming theme for our team. Any lurker suggestions?
