Some dotmaps, then:
The first one is what I kind of assumed would be our dotmap. #2 and #3 are me just playing around a bit, but I actually like #3 a lot. Figuring out where our Copper and Horses are will obviously change things, though. We'll get BW well before we need to settle on a dotmap, so I guess we'll just see how things look at that point.
Eagles & Condors got their first tech and a 2k power increase, so seems like AH as predicted. I was really conflicted about the scouting move this turn. Was it better to scout the gold now, head east then backtrack, or just ignore it completely? Cal and I chatted about it for quite a bit before we ended up with E-SE:

I'm going to log in to play our turn Caledorn
Moving over to the forest tile yes? YossarianLives
What do you think about scouting?
S-SW to check out the coast by the gold, or E-SE to uncover more fogged tiles and progress more quickly towards our neighbors? Caledorn
Hold on. I need to see the latest screen. Damn this game progresses quickly! YossarianLives https://www.dropbox.com/s/nowxodq8gbqqe0...ot0755.JPG
Caledorn
And that's a real tough decision!
What would you most prefer? YossarianLives
My preference is E-SE, but I think that might just be me being impatient. I would hate to miss something by the gold, but I feel like we'll have a quechua out checking that area before we need to choose a city 3 site Caledorn
Let's go E-Se.
I think the gold site will be city 3 anyways
But! And this is a big but
That gold may mark the middlepoint between us and our neighbour
I would not be surprised if plako did that YossarianLives
But it's right on the coast
Unless that's another snaky lake, like the one our capital is on
That might be what all the bodies of water end up being, come to think of it
Damn, now I'm thinking s-sw to test the shape of that water by the gold... Caledorn
Lol YossarianLives
I couldn't decide with the scout, logged off for dinner
…
Caledorn
the sooner we settle that gold city the better, since I'm pretty certain that gold will be disputed with a neighbour
7 tiles from our starting loc to the gold .. sounds plausible that our neighbours would be 7 tiles further away YossarianLives
Yeah, I guess that makes sense
So then do we go south and continue south if that "ocean" is just a snaky lake? Caledorn
yeah, I think we should do that YossarianLives
Ok, logging in to do that
…
Ok, just logged in
We can get south faster by moving east now Caledorn
yeah YossarianLives
If we go south, then we need to move e-ne next to stay on protective terrain
If we move east now, we may be able to move south faster and explore that ocean/lake faster Caledorn
you don't want us to end up at the forest near the gold?
at the little lake that is
hm .. it looks like the gold is on a peninsula .. I just noticed
so that means we have to move E-SE yes
then SE-S
next turn YossarianLives
Yeah, exactly
So now I'm thinking e-se again, to check the gold coast next
Is that ok? Caledorn
yep YossarianLives
More corn Caledorn
that's nice
uh oh
that looks like the real deal sea YossarianLives
I don't trust Plako anymore Caledorn
plako stated that the map would include some naval warfare options
lol YossarianLives
I think these are all snaky salt lakes
Caledorn
I understand why
I don't think snaky salt lakes would include much naval warfare fun
"our frigate is wending it's way through the howling fjord of salty snake to fight off the extremely dangerous orgynized privateer in the epic battle for the 24 tile fjord!" YossarianLives
lol, apparently seas under a certain size won't allow for ship builds other than workboats Caledorn
well .. I guess our work boats could fight it out then? YossarianLives
But the fort canals will be EPIC!!! Caledorn
lol http://media.elnuevoherald.com/smedia/20...t.138.jpeg <-- should meme that pic saying something along the lines of "Plako's idea of naval warfare: Epic Workboat battles!" YossarianLives
lol
Maybe there is land dividing the fogged coast we see
But most likely it is the real deal ocean Caledorn
we can always hope YossarianLives
So then I don't know what we do next turn with the scout
SE-SW? Caledorn
but I guess this means we're going to scout eastwards for a neighbour there instead
SE will reveal the hill 2S of the current scout position
we should be able to make out if there's water S of that hill by that
if there is, I guess we more SE NE ?
that could end us up in open terrain though, it would appear YossarianLives
SE-NE leaves us on vulnerable terrain Caledorn
meh YossarianLives
Maybe SE-NE? Caledorn
do we want to gamble that that isn't the open sea? YossarianLives
I think we need to play it safe and scout the gold Caledorn
SE-SW or SE-S are the only sensible moves then?
we should ask our lurkers too YossarianLives
Otherwise, we'll be kicking ourselves if we left fish or copper or something unscouted Caledorn
yeah
This is some really nice land down here. I'm thinking the gold city will go ne of the gold, so it'll get the corn once borders pop. Or, we could put it sw of the corn, so the gold and cows come in with a border pop. There have been no changes to the demos.
I'm liking the third dotmap I posted more and more, with tech going BW=>Fishing=>Wheel=>Pottery. How do you guys feel about that?
Edit: For the scout, I'm thinking to go SE next turn, to see if this is a real ocean or just another large snaky lake. Does this sound ok, or would NE-SE be a better decision to just move on and look for those other teams?
(September 2nd, 2013, 11:57)Old Harry Wrote: I'd move 3 and 5 NE, but I like pretty tightly packed cities...
So that lake is lighthouseable, but not boatable. Cuts you off a bit from anything you build on the other side of it...
Thanks for the feedback! 5 can't move ne because it is blocked by 2. 3 could move northeast. It would lose the sheep from its first ring, but it could then share the corn with SP and 1.
That lake is deep in our core, I hope there won't be any logistical problems with our cities on the east bank. So far it just looks like dessert and peaks over there, though, so it's not a priority settling location.
On the scout - fog-gazing it looks like there's at least a tile or two down there. Obviously the water there is saltwater according to the tile yields, but I think it's valuable to see if there's any seafood on it. So I'd probably go SE.
Dotmap looks pretty good, but it's hard to say for sure until BW comes in, which could change things a lot. Definitely agree with the first city plant, and from there it's find copper and/or horses.
So, my turn to play the turn. Our scout moves SE, and reveals this:
And the demographics:
I know I am using screenshot tags, even though it bothers me in tapatalk - but since I haven't gotten around to window-mode Civ yet due to excessive laziness, I figure this is best for everyone else right now due to my resolution.
And Yossarian...? Well, he's standing behind me making a scene, as you can see here:
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"
I'm making that face cuz you grabbed the turn 20 minutes before I got home!
Let's get the scout out to meet our neighbors. I think he (or I guess she, right?) should go NE next, then continue in a general eastern direction.
There was a 2k soldier increase to accompany Orgy's tech, so that must be Mining. Curiously, it took them 9 turns to research, and it only cost 79, so something's going on there...
Retiring to AI after ending turn and then reclaiming the civ generally means he's changing his password. The AI doesn't change anything if the turn has already been ended as far as I know.
