Turn 17:

The scout uncovered some nice riverland but no new resources. NE-SE next? Or NW-NW?

Lan completed our corn farm, so we have switched over to a Quechua to grow in 4 turns. So why are we making this mid-Worker switch? Well, when I tested the option of growing to size 2 on the unimproved corn before building the worker, that was obviously slower. Building the Worker first and then growing was much better. But then the worker completed before BW was done, so it wasted a turn pre-farming a tile that will get cottaged soon. Also, a hill was mined well before we had the population to actually work it. Two chops completed together at the end of the Settler, but with 29 hammers overflow, the second chop was completely superfluous for the Settler, and was not enough to 1-turn the workboat. Going with the current plan (growing as soon as the farm finished), only delays the worker by two turns, but allows us to work the mine much earlier, generating a higher total yield, which let's us get the Settler out a turn faster and 1-turn the workboat the next turn (and saves us a forest).

Finishing that farm catapults us from last to second in food! We also made a small move up in GNP. 2k soldier points were added this turn, coinciding with the Ponies researching a tech. At 11 turns to research, I think they got AH, maybe? The other option is that they finished Pottery, and someone built a warrior.

Moiraine didn't uncover much of anything. I really don't know where to go next? I guess maybe N-E or N-SE? Lan moves to the hill to finish a quick mine before BW comes in. Looks like E&C passed us in food when they grew this turn. Gladiator's Glory finally completed their first tech on T18, and to my great surprise, it was not BW!?!? Their tech came with no power, and they started with Fishing / Mining. The only way that their first tech took them this long to research is if they switched it half-way through. I'm not sure what's going on with them.

Kind of a boring turn. Nothing revealed by the scout. I'm thinking NE-NE next turn. Worker starts on the mine, will complete the turn after we grow to size 2. Demo's don't look so hot quite yet, but hopefully we'll start catching up there pretty soon. Care Bears and EggHeads each grew to size 2 this turn. Bowsling researched a tech, which took 7 turns and gave 2k soldier points. I am guessing this was Mining, though it might have been Hunting.

NE-NE sounds good.

Replayed the turn after the reload.

I wanted to revisit those teams that grew this turn. Care Bears were the team that moved their capital, so I have to assume that they moved onto a plains hill. That would have allowed them to finish their worker in 12 turns, on T13. Then they worked an unimproved food resource for four turns (12 food total), at which point their farm completed and they were able to grow in two more turns (12 + 6 + 6 = 24 food total, or 12 + 5 + 5 = 22 food total).

EggHeads are another Exp team, so they should have finished their worker T12, then switched to growth. Their first tech was Hunting, so I'm guessing they went to improve a deer. So let's say they also got 12 food in the four turns while they camped their deer, then it took three more turns to grow, so I guess this was a tundra deer? If it had been a grass deer, they should have grown last turn. Does that make sense?

Wouldn't a forest deer take an extra turn to camp?

No.

Well yes and no. The worker may take an extra turn to move onto the forest, if it's not a fast worker.

A panther showed up by the scout. Not too scary, but I don't want to lose any turns healing, so we ran away. There were a lot of point increases for the land from T0. EggHeads researched a tech that gave them 2k soldiers, I'm guessing AH. I was last to play so here's the new turn:

The lion kind of throws off the scouting plan. Maybe NW-N? Or do we take a risk and continue NE-NE? We finally grow so I switched back to the worker. We'll finish the mine next turn.

Seems more likely than tundra deer - I thought tundra in your starting bfc got converted to something else?

NE-N sounds like a good move. I'd avoid taking a 20% chance of losing the scout for as long as possible...
