Hmmm, you're not getting any trade routes with Sian? I thought you would.

Nope.
It could be as simple as not having scouted a path to one of his cities, though. In which case the Optics research next turn ought to help. Gonna research that, Alphabet, and then stop for a while.
Also, first new city in a while:
Kinda sloppy, I don't have a missionary ready for it, nor all the worker support I should really have. But those things happen when you're playing fast and casual, I guess. 'Only' two turns today.

Need Astro for the trade routes. You have to go through an ocean tile to get into one of his cities. You also ned vision into one of his cities to get the trade routes.

Nah, I don't think you need either of those. I think what you need is to defog one coast tile within his territory, as odd as that may sound.

Accomplished. No trade yet. Maybe end of turn order of operations is the culprit; I guess I'll find out next turn.
In other news, the conversion of Roy into a Windmill fueled Bureaucap is in progress. At least I've got a decent food surplus at this point, anyway.

Still no trade with Sian . I note that Sian has Astronomy; I probably need to pick it up soon, but I'm loathe to lose the Colossus. One last thing to try: scout out his cities. Need to do that anyway to see if/when he's assembling a navy and invasion force.
News this turn:
University of Sankore fell. Didn't check to whom.
Why, yes, Ruff, I'm aware that HA won't cut it against you. You don't have to keep rubbing it in:
And, two new cities:
I have several more settlers heading east to hopefully grab the rest of the continent. And three Hindu missionaries in queues - need to Hinduize at least all my own cities plus one of each of Ruff's and Sian's. That 40% off sale on techs is just what I need to keep in this despite stretching my econ ever thinner.

Played this morning - the only interesting bit is that the barbs founded a city in a spot where I want to plant one myself in a few turns. Since I've got HA in the area and settlers en route, I think I'm just going to raze it.
Other than that, just buliding up cash and my EP lead - actually have my first spy specialist hired! I don't really want to spend commerce on EP until I've gotten Hindu spread to my neighbors, just in case that prompts them to close borders. I need about 10 missionaries, stat - too bad I can only have three in existance at any one time.
Also, I finally have a city working on something military again - Durkon's got all its basic infra built and is no working on a barracks. Assuming I don't find something more urgent, I'm shortly going to start stacking up Cho's.
Also, in foreign news, with the turn currently in my inbox:
Sian Wrote:Ruff grabbed Lib-Nationalism and is probably going for Taj Yeah . Got some real catch-up work to do. Definitely still going to be a challenge!

Demos...definitely reflect an empire that's bigger than everyone else and needs some time to grow the cities. Significantly behind in GNP, way ahead in food. This seems the right situation for espionage, all right!

Trade route mechanics notes:
1) You can only ever get one trade route from each foreign city.
2) You need to be able to trace a trade route to a city belonging to your trading partner in order to have a trade route with it.
I *think* (but you know my track record with this sort of thing ) you'll have trade routes with Sian once Lien gets it's second border pop + you get visibility on Sian's city.

Lien's culture is definitely not going to expand further out into the water, even though I've been wrong about the trade route rules twice now.
