Diplo with BowAivo:
We sent them the land agreement proposal on Nov 16, and an image of what we were talking about on Nov 22. They finally replied to us on on Tuesday:
Aivoturso Wrote:Hi Cal & Yossa,
Sorry about the sluggish response. It's been a busy autumn. Luckily, it seems that I'll have more spare time starting next week, so I hopefully can pay proper attention to the game. Border works for us well. So can I assume we have an agreement about that? We'd also like to start discussing how we could help each other further. We are hoping for a mutually beneficial long term alliance with you.
If you don't mind us asking, what is your current assesment of the other teams participating in the game? Our impressions are varied. Asterix from Margarita team and team Eagles and Condors has been very friendly with us. Team Dinosaurs has been kind of weird. Some messages have been cordial, but others outright hostile. And Team Pony has been mostly quiet. That might be explained by CH being away for a while, though. We haven't changed enough messages with other teams to make a real assesment yet.
Aivo
To which I replied:
YossarianLives Wrote:Hi Aivo and Bowsling,
Perfect, I'm glad we have a fair land agreement in place! We're definitely interested in starting to discuss how we can help each other further. Did you have anything in mind?
We've had positive interactions with most of the other teams. Asterix and Suttree have been pretty friendly, but we haven't had a whole lot to discuss with them since they're so far away. The Ponies don't communicate much, as you've noted. Orgy was the last team we met, but we've been building a good relationship with them so far. Care Bears have been nice, but we're trying not to make any agreements that could help them since they are already so far in the lead. They are definitely the team to beat in this game. Rome continues to ignore all our attempts to communicate with them, and they rushed to Iron Working, so we have started working with the EggHeads and Dinosaurs to try to contain that threat. They've seemed pretty cooperative with us so far, but we'd be interested in hearing more about the Dinosaurs' hostile messages to you.
Cheers,
Yossarian
tbh, I don't really want to have any further dealings with this team. In fact, I think we should be eyeing their lands as a potential area for expansion once Rome is taken care of.

Nov 22:
YossarianLives Wrote:Hi guys,
So, are we going to send Rome the in-game message this turn or T95? We have not sent them anything yet. We did send this message to Asterix last night:
"Hi Asterix,
England, Byzantium and our team will be informing the Romans shortly that if they DOW any one us, we will consider it equivalent to declaring war on all three of us. Since you seem to be the only team that Rome is actually responding to, we would greatly appreciate it if you urge them to send their attention against India. Could you let them know that if they were to do that, England, Byzantium, and our team would be happy to sign NAPs with them so they can focus on India for maximum gains.
Thanks for your help!
Yossa"
Also, we noticed a couple chariots west of Antium this turn, including a Sentry chariot on a hill.
-Yossarian
EggHeads Wrote:Have DT/Team England already sent the message? if so, Team eggHeads can do the same.
Dinos Wrote:HI guys!
Yossarian could you send screenshots of Roman forces.
Rome doesn't whip any more on turn 92.
So we wait for answer of Asterix?

EggHeads Wrote:Here are pictures from T92 after Rome finish turn.
They moved sentry chariot inside borders to heal.

Top power was 138k on T92. I suppose India is 2nd in power after Rome.
Our team was 3rd at the moment.
We are waiting for you to decide - should we announce our pact to Rome now or wait of Asterix's response.
As you can see Asterix's power is nonexistend, so he is lucky to be far away from Rome and play diplo game, I suppose.

YossarianLives Wrote:Hi guys,
So far no word from Asterix. Why don't we stick with the original timeline of announcing our pact to Rome on T95. Hopefully we'll hear from Asterix by then, but if not, we shouldn't keep delaying.
Nothing new from our Rome scouting, so here are some closeups of the cities we have vision on.

Dinos Wrote:So when do you want to send message to Rome? We preffer to do it in this turn, but we can wait to turn 95.
We started production of catapults.

Nov 25:
EggHeads Wrote:Ok, its t95.
Are everyone agree to send a msg to Rome now?
Our team agree.
We should send it before GG play the turn, I suppose.
-TKGB of EggHeads
EggHeads Wrote:Here is the msg our team will send:
"The Teams of Byzantium, Inca, and English are forming a three-way defensive pact. Thus, a declaration of war towards one of our teams is equivalent to declaring war on all three of us."
YossarianLives Wrote:I just sent the message to Rome, exactly as quoted by EggHeads. I finally chatted with Asterix and we are going to get no help on that end. Asterix feels that our Defensive Pact is too aggressive towards Rome and he will not get involved unless we're willing to bribe Rome to attack India.
EggHeads Wrote:Asterix playing his game with no power and push for tech.
I was expected he said that. He is interested all 3 of us drawn into early warfare.
But 3 vs 1 is an opportunity, we all could profit from it.
I'll send our def pact msg to Rome in the next hour.
TKGB of EggHeads
EggHeads Wrote:I just sent msg to Rome ingame. And copy it for their mail, not sure if they read any.
DT, did u sent this msg?
Dinos Wrote:We will send this message at this turn too.
What this pact means for you? If Rome will attack one of us, what rest of us should to do? Just declare war or attack Rome? IMHO its obvious that we should fight with them, but I want to know your opinion.
Nov 26:
EggHeads Wrote:I think we all should try cripple Rome.
Not just declare some phony war.
Rome is unpredictable, and its land could be devided between our 3 teams for greater good.
-TKGB of EggHeads
EggHeads Wrote:If some of 3 teams under heavy attack by Rome, we should think how to repay it more. By land, or whatever.
Just a thought.
EggHeads Wrote:Oh, and we think our team not the target for Rome now.
We didn't see any troop movement near our border.
I'm thinking, Dinos is the target for Rome.
Dinos Wrote:I agree with you that Rome will probably attack us, because we build cities near their borders.
If they will see your troops near their borders (not only single axe or chariot), they will not be able to attack us with full power.
What should we do in future? You can build cities near their boarders, to block them, and then we can wait to crossbowman, or we can try to dispose them now (but I think that this is more risky).
W.
YossarianLives Wrote:Hi guys,
We have axes and spears ready to move out, but we'll be in a bad way financially as soon as they leave our borders. We want to try to hold them back as long as possible, especially if our message to Rome was enough to make them call off any attack. Do you guys see any praets? Does it seem like an attack might be imminent?
If Rome tries to settle west of Arretium, we would like to DOW them to prevent this. Would you guys support this by DOWing Rome yourselves?
Is there any chance that Byzantium could raze Rome's iron city with a naval attack? If we could coordinate that, it would be the most efficient way to neutralize the threat of praets.
-Yossarian
Dinos Wrote:At this moment we see only one roman chariot, but they need olny 2 turns to come to Nottingham, and 3 turnt to come to Chelsea.
If you will declare war to them, we will do the same.
EggHeads Wrote:Okay, we'll try to raze Rome's coastal city (we were already building a galley in our border city) and failing that, we'll try to raze the road on the iron.
Okay, if you declare war, we can declare as well.
DMOC of Team EggHeads
Nov 27:
EggHeads Wrote:Hi,
Any news on Romes tech?
As I understand they just finished the Math on t96, right?
Our team finished currency this turn, as you can see.
Rome has 37gold in treasure at the start of t96.
On t95 they moved sentry chariot inside their land, we cant see it right now.
Power is spiking again. Here the power graphs from t96.

In any case, if we decide to raze Iron city, we need some intel on units around it and maybe some help from Dino's units.
One for all, all for one!
TKGB of EggHeads.
Dinos Wrote:Hi guys!
Rome has finished research Math on turn 96 as DMoc said.
They also make pre-chopped 2 forest near city with gold ..cumae I think. They will finish chopped forests...their workers lose turns to get in to the forest then finish chopped.
When you will produce galley and swim to the roman borders...we have to know that because we should move our chariot to check vicinity of City of Ravenna...at the moment has 2 pop.
EggHeads Wrote:I'm not sure on galley timing.
We are currently produce one, but maybe we might whip 2nd short after.
I'll tell you when we got current turn number.

We've talked a little with Suttree, and we have OB with them. But since we're so far away, we haven't communicated too much.
Not sure why India got Police State. Send like am unusual use of the Pyramids.

Ok, I'm exhausted. I also had a long chat with Teddy today but I'm not going to post all of that. The important point is that they say they're hurting for happy, and are wondering how we would feel about them settling our furs. Besides the furs, it's a pretty shitty location, so I'm thinking about asking them to gift us stone so we can build Moai quick in Hangovers. I'll probably float that unless someone disagrees.
Here are some pictures Teddy just sent us:

Nooooooo! Not the turn reports... Sorry, I'm struggling to keep up with the diplo in this game - can you delete where appropriate:
- India are going to win / India are in a good position now, but should tail off late-game / India are a useful smokescreen for other teams to focus on
- Rome are actually communicating with Asterix / Asterix is just pretending they are communicating
Have you got a spare fur? If not I'd say you need it more than they do...

Hi Old Harry. I know the diplo in this game is really getting out of control. I don't think copy-pasting the emails and chats is very helpful, so I'll just try to summarize from now on. If you ever have any questions or want more info, let me know. If you want to check out the team email, our address is yossadorn and the password is "Catch-22".

Have you got a spare fur? If not I'd say you need it more than they do...
- India is pulling further and further into the lead. It will take a concentrated effort from multiple teams to reign them in. Unfortunately, due to some earlier misunderstandings, the two teams they neighbor (EggHeads and Asterix) do not trust each other. Therefore, both teams are currently cooperating with India, helping them pull further into the lead.
- I guess it's possible that Asterix is just pretending they are communicating with Rome, but I don't know why they would do that. They are both Polish, so the have the shared language / culture thing going on. Unfortunately, Asterix does not seem too keen in helping us against Rome, so them communicating doesn't really help us much.
We do not have a spare fur, that one in the ice is the only one in sight. The problem is, that is a really shitty city, and with our horrible economic situation, we are in no position to settle it anytime soon. Obviously I want the fur for us, but if EggHeads want it also, there really isn't much we can do to stop them. That's why I'm thinking it might be more worthwhile to try to get some goodwill (and maybe stone also) by just giving EggHeads our blessing to settle the location.
Edit: Also, Arkipeller just let us know that they are sending us a free missionary. So hopefully we can use that + cheap temples to help out with the happy issues. I'm thinking we'll work towards Mono for OR next after finishing Currency.

AlaePB1 spoiler:
Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but I feel like this game has been unpopular on RB and I've been thinking about why that might be.
- This was not billed as a greens game, but it involves a lot of people who have never played on RB before. That inevitably means that the overall skill level is much less than what is normally seen on RB. The one team that is playing at a high skill level, Care Bears of India, is not reporting much at all, so what is left for people to lurk is pretty sub-optimal play. I think this is the biggest reason that this game hasn't been too popular.
- It's a full diplo game. There have been plenty of posts explaining why some people do not enjoy diplo. I think especially with the results of the ISDG and the Demogame, people feel diplo can punish good civ play, which I can't deny. But for all the time it consumes, I have been enjoying chatting with the fellow players about this game, and I think it adds a whole new dimension to the game that I do find enjoyable. I'm not sure if this is turning some people off of this game, but I guess it's not helping.
- The multiple story threads filled with bizarre posts just makes this kind of a weird game. Some non-participants making really weird posts in other games' threads whenever PB14 is mentioned probably perpetuates the view that this game is just odd and maybe even a little creepy, especially to those who aren't reading any of the spoiler threads.
I know I was excited about this game when it started, and I am a little sad that it isn't getting much love. I don't know if it's possible to start over with a clean slate, but what I was hoping for was for lurker posts in the spoiler threads helping us newbies improve our games and incorporate ourselves into RB. Is there any chance that could still happen?

Don't take Krill's posts too seriously. This game is fine as it is and this wasn't the first or even last one where we'll see some pretty weak teams/players. They are actually in the right place, since diplo games (even Tech trading allowed) can be more forgiving and educational to beginning players, if you just have the time for diplo and willingness to listen and learn from your more experienced allies.

It's not popular on RB because it doesn't have many RB-like qualities. That is fairly straightforward.
