[SPOILERS] Yossarian blames Caledorn

@ WilliamLP, thanks for that, and for RBStats in general. I was definitely refreshing that page almost as often as CivStats! Someone is going to have to go bump your thread again pretty soon to keep it on the first page, since the powers that be haven't seen fit to sticky it yet.

I've got some quiet time and finally booted up my computer, so I can actually post some pictures for the lurkers smile

In the north we have more infra builds, fewer wealth builds. We're breakeven at 20% research, so we should be able to coast to Construction in 3 turns no problem. After that, we'll go for Monarchy. Hopefully the HR happy and hooked Wines will let us grow onto more cottages (or scientists) to further help our research rate.

Here in the middle is where a lot of our unit builds have been switched to more infrastructure. Good thing the lurkers convinced me to pop out some quick units before Cal took over, because it seems like we won't be getting anymore before Construction comes in and we can start pumping out cats.

There's our far south. Not much to say there.

We messaged Classical_Hero in-game asking if we can cut through his gold city to continue exploring west. I probably would have left the scout in BowAivo's land to keep tabs on their units, but Caledorn is less-inclined to go on the offensive so that intel has less value right now.

That hallucinated chariot in the galley has disappeared back into the ether neenerneener

DMOC/Teddy sent us a picture of our iron. Good to know where it is for when we finally manage to squeeze in IW. We've engaged in 3-way chats between their team and Arkipeller to discuss ways we can cooperate against Suttree. All the legwork would fall on Arkipeller since he is the only one bordering Sutt, so we're wondering how we can get the Cat Burglars involved in this new alliance. Since they're pretty new to the game, we're not sure how receptive they'll be, or if they even want to engage in any diplo. They have not had any correspondence with our team at all.

Demos:

And a chat Cal and I had, for anyone who is interested:

Screens in Dropbox. Too tired to write a report now though.
YossarianLives
Cool, thanks! You're doing a great job
I posted some thoughts in our thread
Caledorn
Great to hear - thanks
I really want those courthouses so we can run our slider even higher
YossarianLives
I know you do!
The courthouses are fine. They're good for the espy points also
Caledorn
And I really don't want to pump out more units
YossarianLives
Ok, your call.
Caledorn
Unless you want to veto me on that I want to stop producing units, since every one of them now is an additional drain on our economy. The 25 percent commerce bonus on the market is worth it if we use the capital for wealth building
YossarianLives
It's not 100% certain that we'll end up at war with Rome
But if we do you'll wish we had them tongue
Caledorn
Its already producing 22 gpt at 70 percent tax
YossarianLives
So a market will only as 5 gold while we keep it at 80% tax
I think you're running at 80%, not 70
Caledorn
Tbh, if Rome declares on us, I consider us doomed. At least let us produce cats and not Spears and more axes that are most likely useless anyways. Cats will be doing a very good job
YossarianLives
Yea, if the plan is to just wait until cats come in, then that's ok
Caledorn
You're right there. But yes. 5 gpt not producing wealth. That's still 5 gpt. And the number is probably like 8-9 with the cap on wealth
Er 7-8 I mean
With our economy that's substantial actually. It's five more units for instance
Although, I don't expect to complete the market yet mind you. I'm just investing some hammers in it for now
Might consider whipping it at 2 pop, but it's more a filler than a definite build for now
YossarianLives
We'll see if you ever break down and actually produce wealth at the cap tongue
Do you think you will go to war with BowAivo when the NAP expires?
Caledorn
No
If we do, Rome will definitely attack us
YossarianLives
Did you see Dinos'proposal that we just DOW Rome and get it over with?
That's too bad, they make for a very easy target
Caledorn
Yeah, and I am not too eager about it. We won't win
Yeah, but so do we if we attack them and our military is in their lands when Rome pays us a visit
YossarianLives
At the very least, you should break our border agreement after the NAP expires. I think that is fair game
Caledorn
That I agree with
I have no intention of renewing the nap as it stands now. All that fat land unpopulated is depressing
YossarianLives
They have left a tone of nice unsettled land near our nice
I imagine Rome will DOW someone and move in their armies well before t150
Caledorn
I hope so. This is getting annoying
YossarianLives
Of course, I was predicting the same thing 50 turns ago, and they're still delaying
What's your tech plan after construction?
Caledorn
I thought Monarchy might be nice, but wanted to hear your thoughts
YossarianLives
Actually, we should be having this conversation in the tech thread. For more views and so the lurkers understand your plans so that can help more
Not the tech thread, or lurker thread, sorry
Our lurker thread
Caledorn
Perhaps you could post it there if you have the time?
YossarianLives
I haven't touched a computer since baby came, and I don't even know how i could copy paste it from my phone
Caledorn
I'll do it then
YossarianLives
Anyways, I should be napping too. I'll talk to you later
Caledorn
Have a nice nap. Thanks for sticking with me!

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Rome has plunged the world into war with a DOW against DT. This triggers the Defensive Pact so that we must DOW Rome in return, as must DMOC/Teddy. Here are pictures that DT sent us at the end of last turn (T127), before Rome actually attacked:

That is 27 praets, 10 axes and 6 chariots that can hit the city of Nottingham on T129. They also have 3 chariots that can hit Chelsea on the first turn of war, which are backed up by a praet and 2 axes.

So here is what happened:

This is what Rome has on our side of things:

And what we have to attack with:

Plus a few other axes / spears sprinkled about. We definitely don't have enough to threaten Arretium, maybe a total of some 10 axes and a few spears. However, Construction has arrived, and we can start pumping out the cats. If I were behind the wheel, I would probably focus everything now on getting cats and more axes to this southern front. EggHeads will be responsible for attacking Rome's northern city of Antium, and maybe even sending in a couple galleys to threaten their sole source of iron at Ravenna. The quicker we can end Rome's game, the faster we can turn our attention to our real prize, BowAivo to the west.

Let's see how Caledorn plays this one out.

A composite image of the battlefield:

I'm thinking we move all the underlined troops to the frontlines. I will take 4 turns to get the northern troops south (we should be safe up there if DMOC/Teddy move their army in). The goal would be to get some 4-5 cats to the front in that time, so that we could move everything against Arretium on T134. Caledorn and I are chatting now, I'll update with more details after we play the turn.

And DT had...no units in a border city?
Reply

lol, I guess they had a single cat inside Chelsea. They said that it killed one chariot before dying to the second chariot. Interestingly, Rome seems to have decided to keep the city. Hopefully that ends up biting them in the ass.

I took back the reigns for this turn since Rome DOWed. Chatted a bunch with DMOC/Teddy while playing the turn, and shared some screenshots. Turn report coming shortly.

Nice to see you lurking, btw, NH! smile

Turn 128

True to our word, DMOC/Teddy and we declared on Rome to help protect DT.

We have switched 8 of our cities to catapult builds, pretty much all of which will be whipped next turn. About half of those will reach the front in time for an attack on Arretium. I still need to figure out the logistics, but hopefully some of the cities closer to the front will also get out a second catapult. The cities further from the front will probably keep their cats in the west, in case it does become safe to attack BowAivo after all mischief

Here is Rome:

I had to delete the chariot and quechua that I sent inside of Rome's borders. That composite shot was put together with several pictures from our allies, which I'll put in spoilers.

That last image also gave me confidence to move pretty much all our troops out of Runaway Civs to join the attack in the south.

Here's DMOC/Teddy's stack, set to raze Antium on T132:

They'll use their galleys to transport 4 of the cats to keep up with the front stack, allowing them to bombard defenses before the rest of the cats show up for the actual attack. The chariot in their stack will pillage the silver mine on the way south to make it more painful for Rome to whip reinforcements. Depending on how that goes, they might send 4 axes in their galleys to try to pillage Rome's iron.

DT said that they will lose Nottingham. Hopefully that last whip was for walls. Hopefully they can make it costly enough that they'll be able to counter-attack with their own cats and axes. After that, we are hoping that Rome will be spent and DT can start taking back some ground. Either way, Rome shouldn't be a threat to us or DMOC/Teddy anymore once we raze those border cities. Neither one of us plans on pushing too much harder beyond that.

Here's our army again:

I'm not going to fix it, but we should actually be able to get 15 axes and 5 spears in place to participate in the attack on Arretium, in addition to our 5-7 cats. They should be able to all stage on the circled tile on T134. We'll have roaded up to Rome's border by then, so they can move adjacent to Arretium on T135. If all goes according to plan, we'll burn the city on T136.

Oh, and this C&D gem just came in from our allies:

DMOC/Teddy Wrote:Rome has 574,000 soldiers.

Rough estimate of Rome's military:

In DT's land:
28 praetorians, 12 axes, 9 chariots, and 2 warriors.

Antium and Ravenna: 5 praetorians, 4 axemen

Rome (the city) and Cumae: 3 praetorians, 1 axemen, 2 chariots. Cumae is size 6 with 1 praetorian.

Other stuff near Yossarian: 5 praetorians, 2 axemen, 1 chariot

Not sure what's in Neapolis, I'd estimate 1 praetorian.

Total estimated military: 42 praetorians, 19 axes, 12 chariots, and 2 warriors. That is 2*2000+12*4000+19*6000+42*8000 = 502,000 already!

From techs, Hunting + Mining + AH + BW + IW + Wheel + Mathematics is 34,000. So all together that's 536,000.

Now we have population. They have cities of size 6,6,5,4,4, and 4 for a total of 29 population points. That should be 14,000 so that is now 550,000 power.

Now, they've also captured what was a size four city (I'm pretty sure DT whipped it for 2). I think capturing a city automatically decreases it by one? Even so it won't really matter, that contributes 2,000 or 3,000 so being on the upper end that's 553,000 power.

Finally, they have 6 cities that have barracks in them (I'm pretty sure they built them everywhere). So that's 18,000 total power, and thus we're at 571,000. So roughly speaking, we're only missing out on some mysterious 3,000 power! smile That could even be a barracks from the captured DT city, or could be some difference as a result of Rome losing 1 chariot to attack DT's city but getting another unit in return.

tl:dr - Rome's entire military has been revealed in the composite shot I posted above, minus about 3k soldier points biggrin

Wow, sounds like you could even get a free fairly expensive city!

If you wanted to make them turn their stack around you could head straight for Rome (nb I'm definitely not suggesting that!) but I could see you keeping Arretium with enough catapults and axes in there... Have you simmed any cat+axe vs praet battles yet? Might be fun to see how many cats it takes to give you good odds.

Although am I right in thinking GG are saving promotions to heal with after getting collateraled? Meaning you'd need to attack out with the axes rather than sitting behind walls. Maybe keeping it isn't so great in that circumstance. alright
