I'll take a crack at it:
Its impossible to give you advice on what parts are good for their cost if the costs vary for different geographies. Darrell
Can you at least tell me if the cheaper video card is more than enough for Diablo3 and StarCraft2? I'm not interested in Skyrim so i don't need a NASA type config

Cant seem to find it atm, but I am pretty sure I have been linked form here to a website that gives you a ranking of all graphic cards.
You then look to see what the recommended spec on a game is, if your card is higher up on the list, you are fine
Do you mean this one, Jkaen? http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gami...107-7.html

One of my colegues who works in the pc hardware department made a better configuration (a better price too )

That is a fucking terrible configuration. You are not going to do anything with a 630. You're also paying the Intel motherboard tax without a meaningfully better processor.
Civilization IV: 21 (Bismarck of Mali), 29 (Mao Zedong of Babylon), 38 (Isabella of China), 45 (Victoria of Sumeria), PB12 (Darius of Sumeria), 56 (Hammurabi of Sumeria), PB16 (Bismarck of Mali), 78 (Augustus of Byzantium), PB56 (Willem of China)

My desktop has significantly better specs, and I put it together almost three years ago for slightly over 600 bucks. I didn't even custom-build most of it- just bought a bare-bones ZT Systems PC from Costco's website that had a good processor, HD & a fair amount of memory, and then purchased a much better graphics card and power supply during one of Newegg's seemingly endless sales. It works great- actually, only large, late-game FFH maps really tax it, and I think that's because Civ IV isn't optimized for multiple cores.
When designing a gaming PC the aim is to get the best possible graphics card and then design everything around that.
Generally, anything slower than a nVidia 660 or preferably an AMD 270X isn't really worth it IMO. Graphics cards tend not to obsolete that fast though; I'm using an old nVidia 260 from 2008 and it still chugs along OK in most games, but I don't play anything taxing. |
