So if I were to use "enveloped" to clue "check" because you might put a check in an envelope, then the clue uses the meaning of the word "check" but does not use the meaning of the word "enveloped"; rather, it uses the fact that the letters in it are similar to the letters in the word "envelope". No?

By the way, is it possible to get a grid of words from the actual game this time? Does anyone have a set?

Seven, I don't see how an envelope does not share the etymology of enveloped. When you have put a check inside an envelope, you have enveloped it in protective paper.

To be precise, I read 'enveloped' as a direct descriptor - ie. something which has been wrapped up or surrounded completely, with strong overtones of a physical envelope. To me, Cloak, Web, and Space are things that envelop, not things that are enveloped.

It is in America.

I saw enveloped -> check or reimbursement as a pun, reading enveloped as "placed into an envelope", and I would have put both of those words on my list, but probably not at the top. And for the brits: that piece of paper that you take to the bank and exchange for money is spelled "check" here. I don't think anyone in the US ever uses the word "cheque". Even the spell checker doesn't like that word.

The lesson, I think, is that discussion before guessing is good.

This could work fine with a lurker thread, banning all players. Lurkers give out their 2-3-4 guesses based on spymaster clues for either team. No players allowed ofcourse. Might cheer up any spymaster stuck with unimaginative team to see someone else got it 'right'
