For lack of a better place here goes my thread about the pitboss game I'll be playing with the reddit guys.
picks so far:
SomeCallMeRoars - Elohim Enoin Logos
fantasticsid & dunnp - Lanun Falamar
Benign Tempest - Sheaim Tebryn Arbandi
kazegami - Hippus Tasunke
h4rt & d23durian - Ljosalfar Arendel Phaedra
Yell0w - Clan of Embers Jonas Endain
I'm looking for 2 ded-lurkers
picks on my mind (and I have to pick fast):
Jonas... get AC high really fast, hope it will criple the others and go for military victory. There are no barbarian civs and no one to push AC counter except Sheaim in lategame.
hmm whats left here builder wise:
Sidar kinda op in EitB.. well go for disciple units and go for Lunutar victory just for fun.
Kuriotates great civ, though the mapsize + number of players make them a less desirable choise. Still great, horsemen/HA for early aggression and defense.
Keelyn for imba summons (death or water)
Illians: well they are banned always... well not here Still good in raising the AC counter, really piss off all the builder civs with their sick terra forming ritual, sick civ in general (and ARC instead of DEF now, midgame conquest with ice elementals on mass) Elohim in game so we won't get the AGR most likely.
Luchuirp sick builder civ, we could go for AV and bring the Infernals and a lot of Armageddon to the world, while ignoring golems. Or go for golems which are unchanged by the Acounter and go for midgame military (buffed a lot in EitB)
Varn Gossam top tier pick severely nerved by CHA instead of CRE
sneak in Flauros as 2nd Lanun cause his new CRE trait which should allow for faster Coves, might be still worse than Falamar
All whining about my behavior in this game goes here.
GG Sian, regardless of anything I may have said in my thread, you played better than I did and beat me fairly under the rules and conditions of the game.
Plako's map deserved more exploration than PBEM 31 provided. Thank you to the players here for doing it justice! I was stoked to see the navy battles and fully explored islands. When I considered scoring, my goal was for a competitive balance between early finish races and late ROFLstomps. I was pleased to see both obvious paths played out. Also, kudos to the new members who jumped in here!
A note about events: I didn't intend for events to be enabled, so humble apologies to those who were (repeatedly!) set back by partisans and such. Since we all started from the same save, the subset of events enabled for all of us should be the same... and it was a bad batch! Where's the horse whisperer quest when you need it?!
A note to T-Hawk: I realize now that I jumped the gun by posting an adventure directly to the General Forums. Thank you for smoothing the edges of the idea and allowing it to fly. By rights I should have started with a proposal and we could have avoided some of the confusion and BUG mod discussion in the early days of this adventure. 10 Moderator Merits to you, sir.
Scoring:
Ceiliazul Wrote:
Fastest Victory: 10,7,3,1 (1st-4th date of conquest).
Most Elite Unit: 5,3,1 (1st-3rd most XP on one unit)
From the end of the prematurely-terminated pbem32's lurker thread, comes demand for a sequel.
SevenSpirits Wrote:Guys, I really want to play in a game like this. Someone want to make it happen?
Commodore Wrote:Uh, define make it happen? Similar setup/map style/trait buffs/tech debuffs? I'd be happy to make a map if you were interested.
SevenSpirits Wrote:Well, I didn't mean to prescribe anything specific. Part of the setup here was that the players had to go by my rules (muahahaha) and I wouldn't wish anything less from a sequel by someone else.
However I can say I really wouldn't mind if it differed only in the details (exact layout of the map, exact starting stuff and tweaks for leaders/civs). I really like how this setup turned out.
scooter Wrote:If we can get something like this going, I'm in. Honestly, I think this map is re-playable. Seriously, swap the bonuses around, maybe make a few cosmetic map tweaks, but keep the bulk of the stuff the same and I would happily play it over again. Maybe ban all leaders/civs that were taken the first time around. Or if we get a new map, I'd love to play one.
Anyone want to sponsor a game like this? The trait/tech/civ options/bonuses were great in this game, and it wouldn't be TOO hard to come up with a new set of bonuses. I don't believe bonuses actually need to be perfectly balanced (just somewhat so) - just needs to be interesting. Part of the challenge is figuring out what is best.
Haven't gotten to any player threads yet, so that'll be next.
scooter Wrote:Want to open up a thread in general about this? I'm definitely still interested, we'd just need a game sponsor, and I'm not sure this thread gets enough eyeballs.
Summary: looking for someone to make a map plus tweaks based on starting stuff, like pbem32.
In the quoted posts I suggest the same map concept but a different map, scooter even suggests reusing most or all of the map wholesale, or you could do something a bit more different (but not too different I hope! I think I got the level of water just right). The bonuses assigned to traits/techs should certainly be different.
Note that I also chose some unusually permissive settings for 32, e.g. war elephants and spies allowed. You, the mapmaker, should make the rules, but Always War is part of the deal and you probably shouldn't be more permissive than I was (e.g. by allowing nukes or tech stealing).

Map and settings information
* Toroidal, Standard size, 40x40, players are all equidistant from all others.
* It's totally mirrored. (The tile that is (x,y) away from my capital is the same as the tile (x,y) away from anyone else's capital.)
* No barbs, no huts, no random events.
* Always war.
* Prince difficulty.
* While there is enough saltwater that ships will be important, there are not enough water tiles to make circumnavigation possible. (It requires at least 33% water tiles, and there are only about 25%.)
Rules recap
* Setup is unusual; see above.
* No communication between players is allowed.
* Goes without saying, but play in good faith and put up a good fight.
* The only bans are:
- All spy missions (but not spies).
- Great spy infiltration ability.
- Nukes.
- All UN/AP resolutions if AW doesn't automatically disable them.
- War Elephants (and Ballista Elephants).
Start effects
Fishing: City has 0 culture
Mining: Tile A becomes flatland
Agriculture: Tile B loses whale boats
Hunting: Tile C loses forest
The Wheel: Tile D, town becomes hamlet
Mysticism: Tile E becomes plains
Additionally there are some civilizations with effects should you choose them:
If you are India, you start without a worker.
If you are Inca, you start without a scout.
If you are Aggressive France, you start without rice.
If you are Charismatic Russia, you get a normal Lab and not a Research Institute.
Me and a friend play Diablo 2 together in a casual way, romping through all the acts in all the difficulty levels and just beating the game together.
I thought of an easy to build Barbarian that wouldn't need top tier gear to do stuff and my friend rolled with a Lightning Sorc.
I provide crowd control through Howl and Warcry and he usually just cleans stuff up.
I find however that when I do some runs on my own (occasionally I like to romp through the Durance of Hate), I find that it's hard for me to deal with mobs and I seem to be pretty underwhelming in a fight. It kind of shows in our duo games where my friend just kind of melts stuff with lightning and I just generally Howl/Warcry people away from him. My Berserker damage only comes to play when fightning bosses, it seems. Maybe I should respec my Barbarian into a Singer, seeing as how I really only play "second flute" to my friend? Then again, my Howl and Warcry are enough for CC most of the time and Battle Orders are almost maxed out anyway; he doesn't benefit from Shout and neither do I really.
Maybe I need some tweaks here and there? It's an untwinked build.
Weapon: Storm Blow (crafted from a magical Great Maul, Hit Power receipt: +92% dmg, +191 AR, 5% chance to frost nova when struck, attacker takes 4 damage, 1-7 lightning damage)
Armor: Twitchthroe (I really don't care for the Armor Class...)
Helmet: Sigon's
Boots: Sigon's
Belt: Sigon's
Gloves: Bloodfists
Rings: Nagelring and a rare (+115 AR, +13% fire resist, +16% lightning resist, 10% chance to nova when struck, 1-5 fire damage, half freeze duration)
Amulet: +1 warcries, 9% lightning/poison/cold resists, 17% fire, +1 max damage)
Skills: Berserk 20, Battle Orders 14, Howl 8, War Cry 2, Mace Mastery 1, prerequisites 1, skills like Iron Skin, Battle Command and Natural Resistances are all 1
Should I hunt for more gear? Change tactics?
Thanks in advance.
