A 37 Month Journey To Victory
Posted by: KingOfPain - November 26th, 2008, 02:12 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (4)

The Nudists team has finally beaten Guildwars!!! [Image: factionL.gif]Well, chapter one, the original game anyway. It's no small accomplishment that required a lot of team work and planning. There were a few missions in the game where we had fought umpteen times and thought mission impossible, but we prevailed in the end - only to face more challenges. [Image: jive.gif]

Thanks for the (mostly) fun, and to all the nudist guest stars who came along for the ride.

Cheers! [Image: band.gif]

  Best possible second world
Posted by: kjn - November 22nd, 2008, 14:08 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (2)

I think I've found a candidate to the best possible second world ever:

A fertile ultra-rich ocean, size 85!

Sadly, I had sent my starting colony ship to another star first (a green, the über-planet was red) and already settled there.

  Imperium Fourteen: Results

As usual, there was a lot of variability in the AI performances. For whatever reason, sometimes the AIs play very well - and sometimes they don't do much of anything. Throw in events, and it makes it hard to evaluate performances. Comparisons are fun, just don't take them too seriously. smile

Hey, we actually had at least one game reported in all four of RefSteel's categories! That makes the results look better. Thanks for your participation.

Another MMO Down - Tabula Rasa

Message from the Tabula Rasa Team
To the Tabula Rasa Community,

Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we've achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn't performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.

So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.

Before we end the service, we'll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009.

We can assure you that through the next couple of months we'll be doing some really fun things in Tabula Rasa, and we plan to make staying on a little longer worth your while. For more details about what we are doing for Tabula Rasa players, please click here.

Stay tuned for more information. We thank you for your loyal support of the game and encourage you to take us up on the benefits we're offering Tabula Rasa players.

The Tabula Rasa Team

So, following Hellgate: London we see another MMO struggle and wink out. Granted, this particular title was a bit off the radar to the RB community, but news is news and there are upcoming titles (of big interest to us) and widespread financial troubles going on.

Not good. Not good at all. [Image: thumbsdown.gif]

  jmas's now-shadow game

Clarification: This is the thread for my (late) Imperium 14 report.

Rats. I've only gotten a little over 50 turns in. There's been a lot going on IRL (In Real Life). I'm still playing unspoilered so I'll post a shadow report of some kind if I can wrap up the game in the near future.

Trying to understand how Party Size and Items and Stats work in WAR

I am still analyzing the comparison, will add random notes as they come and see if we can put it together.

-Party equips as many items as they have. (note: foe had less items than members (although way more than I have) so he used up items right down to the beginner dagger)

-Party equips as many items as they have members to use them. (note: I had less members than items - I equip up to 45 weapons, for example)

- Foe blocked (negated) all my attacks, except reflected dmg.

-Foe did 7792 damage to me (even without Crit). That's a lot of damage from that 120 Jeweled Daggers!

-It's safe to attack higher lvl players with larger parties as long as the total amount of items you can equip is a close match (Gris and Shadow can testify to that [Image: alright.gif])

How base stats interacts in a War (in a party) would be harder to analyze...

Quote:Add 19 Nov:

- War matches players within 5 levels, and amount of gold they (and you) can afford to lose. The amount of gold is roughly 5-6% of your total, which means if you have 100k then War will do the best to match you up with players within 5 levels to your level, and the (maximum) purse will be about 5K.

Therefore, if you are going to farm gold through War, it is always more profitable to do so before you make a big purchase, not after. I try to always keep above 50k gold so I don't have to do Wars for little gain.

- Farming War for gold and status is fast and easy once you have enough items to equip the whole party with decent items. Just look at the list for a party with about the same amount of players, and pick the ones that offer the biggest purse. Difference between party leaders' levels rarely matters in a matched War, unless you are way behind in the story line that your foe is equally equipped (quantity-wise) but have items 2-3 quality above yours.

Quote:Edit: Nov 21

- If you are gearing up for War, it is better to start building up defense first. Stock up on high defense items before worrying about weapons. War is less about how much damage you can do to the other party as long as you do more damage than your foe. In other words, you can win a War if you only do 1 damage but negate all your foes' damage. As shown in the battle the post below
