[Spoilers]Krill PB80 - The Long Road out of Eden

It's just so flat.

I had some of his territory uncovered, via boat and sentry chariot. That looked like, well, natural land, hills, plains, desert, grassland. Just normal.

Then Satellites hits and *boom* God gave Commodore a pancake.

It had about 79,000 forests, which might have had something to do with him ramping up

I guessed it was either mostly forests or mostly jungle, but seemed too far south to be jungle.

Although I'm wondering if saving some forests for the late game might not have been prudent...nah, culture doesn't care for forests.

What I'm a little surprised by (and this is new to me), is that Satellites doesn't reveal city locations, just reveals the base map. So the only way to uncover city locations to nuke is via spies. I shipped over my great spy, then realized that great spies don't have commando frown so I am unlikely to discover all the cities.

Or just nuke everything.

On which note I'm three turns from Lasers for SDI, if Thoth does opt into Manhattan.

I was wrong, two turns to Lasers (one for Plastics, one for Lasers), but all overflow is now exhausted. I'm now down only Medicine, Genetics, Composites, Ecology, Fiber Optics. Thoth is two turns from Fusion, which I also lack. Commodore is 14 turns (minus his GA bomb which should give him 2 turns?) away from culture. But I also need Fission, which I ought to get next.

Still averaging 6500bpt with cities building all available SS parts at a sustainable gold deficit. Therefore I expect that all techs could be researched in 10 turns, maybe 9, with overflow chains in situ for the Engines.

I'm might actually be able to launch before Commodore gets a CV?

2 hours for full turn sequence seems pretty sprightly.

Thoth is beefing up his defences, so it looks like this will go down to the wire in a straight build off, in which case there's nothing I can do to win.

If I skip Fission, then I think I can squeeze out all the techs in 8 turns. I'll need to set up overflow chains, but one engine should only take 4 turns to build in the IW city without overflow, so I think a launch is possible in 10 turns.

Great, either Thoth nukes Commodore or he wins popcorn

Update on the SS Slow completion.

Fusion will be completed in one turn, jigging around a few specialists and wealth/research builds, but I'm not bending everything to beaker output just yet. I still have a few cities building units. But it's little funny just how I managed to get to Fusion to this point, I would like to thank Commodore for this.

Commodore, as everyone can see, is getting annoyed I will not give him peace. These past two turns he re-offered peace and I've rejected it. I think this is reasonable: Why would I give him 10 turns of peace when he is 8 turns from a culture victory? On one level it is insulting, but I'll accept the offer was made to just see the game out. But Commodore is not a player to to make the offer without an "Or else" hanging in the wind, and in this instance, it is submarines.

On T234 I rejected the offer. On his T235 he pillaged 4 seafood. Oh what a shame, that it affects both the cities in the lack of good tiles to work, and every city with Sids Sushi. It must really hurt. Except it doesn't. All my cities are grown. I'm planning micro (which now has to go out the window a little bit) for SS builds, but he lacks tech vision on me, he just sees Apollo built and the knowledge I'm behind Thoth on an SS timeline. What it does do it eat into food boxes, which isn't an issue right now, and saves me a couple of hundred gold in city maintenance smile

And so with that saved gold, I can just about squeeze out Fusion, plus build the attack subs to go be annoying right back. +50% against subs basically makes it game over for the harassment, and the rest is done to Thoth trying to nuke Commodore.

And I get to find another city to build another Casing because I can't finish it as part of the Engine overflow path in Duality.

Anyway, T236 finish Fusion, T238 finish Genetics, T239 (I hope), finish Ecology.

All SS items except the Engines, stasis and life support are trivial and are finished as part of overflow chains or in unimportant cities by T240. eot236 the IW city, Observer Bias, will overflow out 739 adjusted, 164 base hammers, via the Docking platform, plus two chops available. +250% modifiers for the engine. eot237 it should sit at 910 hammers, 210 for the chops when needed means I need 480 hammers. It will actually complete the engine on eot239, and I think I can do it without the chops (which is good for happiness purposes) by running a few 3 base hammer citizens.

Duality has a Casing it will need to discard, and will only overflow out 96 base hammers, but makes more than the IW city does, plus has 7 forests prechopped and workshopped. But the real question is will it complete the Engine eot240 which is the earliest I could complete the life support module: (96+115*4)*2.5=1390, and each chop is worth 75. Three chops? Trivial, both engines will be complete in time.

Stasis is being built in the original capital, which still has 5 forests spare. With two turns worth of available production, and overflowing production from a Levee>Hospital>Thruster (1196/1200) build, it will overflow the maximum out of a hospital build (100 base hammers), for a total of about 190 base overflow (moving to maximum hammers including citizens). Stasis costs 1200 with no modifiers, so base cost is 480 (thank you laboratory). eot240 it can have 190+90*2=370 base hammers, plus four chops gives me Stasis with a forest to spare.

Life Support is the cheapest and has the copper modifier. It needs 286 base production to be built. Meta Analysis on the south coast has 5 forests and a base production of 80. Simply overflowing the maximum out of an Industrial park gives me 100, which is trivial and already set up via a hospital (156/200) to IP (192/200).

So eot240 SS slow is finished. Commodore shows as 7 turns from victory, and I think he only has a single GA to bomb with. So I stand by the previous comment, it looks possible to launch before Commodore can reach an SS victory, or at least complete SS the same turn that Commodore reaches CV.

With nukes I might even beat Commodore into third place.

So I've just double checked the culture output of Pool, it is essentially making 1800 culture/turn. Assuming that the GA that was produced in Horserace Bet on 1802AD has not been used (F9 culture shows it has not been bombed, no golden age) then Commodore will pass legendary in Pool on his T239.

So even if Thoth finishes Manhattan on his T237, he can't finish an ICBM on his T238 so he can't nuke Commodore in time.

Commodores got the win here.

For a bit of fun I've seen just how far I can push things: max food loss for maximum 4 turn output, and just about hit 8800 base bpt. I can finish Ecology eot237 with enough overflow to still finish Genetics eot238. The question is could I finish a functional spaceship eot239 (purely).

One Engine finishes from OB
Life Support finishes in one turn no matter what I do.
All the Casings and Thrusters can be done.
Cockpit can be sped up to complete eot239 as well for only a loss of food.

Stasis is the problem, but if I sacrifice the second engine from Duality, hold the overflow, and chops forests it can one turn Stasis on T239.

tl;dr never work coast in the late game. I just found 2000bpt I've been leaving on the table.
