It is quite possible that as an English teacher to Muslims, being a local, and in generally being helpful to Muslims that you have the implicit approval of the Local Imam(s).

Also as a general rule, as was the case in pre-theocratic Iran, Muslims while minority in a nation tend to ally with liberal leftist types on a local level, at least prior to their seizure of power as a theocratic state. After seizure however, Islamists are more prone to allying with "neo fascists" on a larger, macro geopolitical scale. Also after seizure of power, most secularists (including Atheist and Agnostic) are heavily encouraged to either convert or to leave, although exceptions have been and can be made (including the tax for non believers who cooperate well with Muslims, as one possible option).

So you see, dear Adrienler, for so long as you are useful for the Muslim nation, you will have no reason to have concern.

Also @Adrienler, when I said North California was the only "sane" part of California, what I actually meant wasn't any sort of mental anomaly, but instead I was equating sanity with fiscal sustainability + respect of the US Flag

It seems that in France, the zones are only partial no-go:

Quote:I call the bad parts of Europe’s cities partial no-go zones because ordinary people in ordinary clothing at ordinary times can enter and leave them without trouble. But they are no-go zones in the sense that representatives of the state — police especially, but also firefighters, meter-readers, ambulance attendants and social workers — can only enter with massed power for temporary periods of time. If they disobey this basic rule (as I learned first-hand in Marseille), they are likely to be swarmed, insulted, threatened and even attacked.

Whether unaccompanied women are allowed is a question.

Merkel is fighting for her political life, who knows what else she'll admit in her desperation popcorn

Like many people, for some time I've wanted Merkel gone ASAP. But I've changed my mind, I want to see her concede more: political concessions as well as that more 'far-right lies' are actually true. Then she can leave ignominiously.

It's a pity that the great discussion from the posts by Bacchus (I'm really thankful for the time you spent writing your posts, you gave me a lot to think about and actually a desire to study economics), Mr. Cairo, THH, Gavagai and others is being swamped by this trolling and low-effort/attention-seeking posting.

Everyone has the right to post their thoughts, obviously. But at least try to avoid double and triple-posting when possible, as it just clutters the thread.

(Also, shoutout to some posts made by SevenSpirits way earlier in the thread, which are also great stuff).

Long story short the new posting code is a bit difficult to multi quote post. I'll edit them down later on. But yea I do have to quote separately and then condense it down afterwards. Also, initially the edit post function was not working on the phone so I was temporarily forced to multi post even when not quoting other posts until I got the triple clicks down. (Triple click as actual way to edit posts on phone)

Thanks smile I can recommend The Undercover Economist as a popular introduction to some key ideas, if this field is completely new to you. For my taste, economics is just an amazing way to see the world, and we really suffer for people being not familiar enough with this perspective. The book also quite nicely shows the limits of economic thinking, without talking about them. If you do read it and feel exasperated at how rosy a picture it's painting, just remember that economics historically deals solely with productive activities, which automatically gives it a massively optimist bias. Alas, there is no good popupar introduction to political economy that I'm aware of -- that would deal with power, violence and exploitation.

These areas are not impossible to visit or enter, and indeed on special occasions and under certain parameters anyone can enter, but only a fellow Muslim can enter these areas with full rights, safeties and prviledges, and even these, only if u are male and obey Islamic law. However, female Muslims can also traverse these areas with a male Muslim relative as escort, and outsiders can traverse these areas either if approved of by the local religious authority (generally imam) or if escorted by a male Muslim that can speak for you.

As someone who A) lives in Europe, B) lives in a "Ghetto" (mostly Slavs and Turks with a little local white trash mixed in). You are dead wrong about the supposed no-go zones.

Hell my sister lives in a quarter with majority Muslim population (Turkish mostly).  It is also one of the more pleasant and neighbourly neighbourhoods I've ever been in in Utrecht.  Local (and yes Turkish) shop and restaurant owners great them at the door to the local supermarket and they form a lively community with the people in their flat, organizing BBQ's and the like. The only place she feels unsafe (that she told me about at least) is in the white trash neighbourhoods in the inner city. Majority white or majority muslim doesn't matter a hoot, it's about integration and cohesion.
She and I are also white as snow, blue-eyed, and blondehaired. I'm also openly bisexual. We're not exactly the population that you'd expect to be welcomed there, but we emphatically are.

Maybe you should talk about something you have actual experience of? Oh wait, no, you are apparently very knowlegdable on the Pinochet government and arrived at entirely the wrong conclusions about it rolf
