OK, I keep on changing tech paths. I've set research to Fascism and intend to go Fascism>Combustion>Flight and go kill the lurkers for Teh Lolz.

I see no point in building fighters unless I fight dtay or plako because air combat is broken as fuck (it's basically about whomever can get 3 promo fighters and a production advantage wins). But airports give +1 trade route so it's worth it. After that, Refrigeration>Superconductors seems reasonable to solve health and +25% beakers.

I don't expect to fight BGN now. I don't have any plans to attack him, and I hope that the defensive pacts that are in place deter him from attacking me and Joey and AT. We don't have any pacts that would cause issues in a fight between BGN and OT: that's a fight that I have no interest in taking part in at this stage of the game.

I'm now focusing on securing 5th place in score. Although I would be tempted to attack plako if I could get a large enough edge in air power because he is behind in tech. That's a pipe dream really, because if I had the time in game to make such an attack work, BGN would certainly have dragged the game on long enough that he could just gut this empire. Still, might as well go through the motions of building enough units to seem like I can defend the empire.

EDIT: also popped gems at Ec. Which was nice.

Plako declared on Joey. Not quite sure why, I'm playing on a laptop that can barely load the game so not looking around, just playing the turn and getting the fuck out of dodge. But we did get the event that gives march to all gunpowder units, which is nice.

Wow, that would be a huge event if one of the big digs got it. Think what havoc BGN could cause with permanently healing inf and a medic.

Yeah it would basically double the speed at which he could capture naval cities against players that don't have adequate navy.

So, even though we've tried to make events playable, how many of them that still exist need to be removed? And I think I cut 50% of them already. I think that we need to cut al of them and just build our own event scenarios, but I'm not going to put the time in to doing that. I'm just going to go ahead and cut all these stupidly OP events that we've identified and leave it up to the players what to do with the system.

Events like truffles, pearls, etc., that just give a small tile boost, those are fun and don't have an outsized impact on the game and are OK, IMO. No one ever lost or was at a decisive disadvantage because their neighbor got truffles. In this game plako got two or three of the free promotion events... I think it was free C1 on archers (bowyer), triremes (hulls), and (maybe, if I'm not confusing it with someone else in another game) on cannons too. Now, plako beat me because he's better at this than I am and because I was fighting on two fronts, not because of the events, but the free promotions made it more expensive to counter him. That's a fair advantage when you're having to spend part of a trait to get it (AGG, PRO), but not for free.

Is there a way to have the free promo event just effect one unit? And power plant hammers one plant, etc?

Both should be doable.

FFH has at least one event that grants a promo to one unit.

The power plant or whatever building bonus could be granted to the city that triggers the event instead.

Look you could turn civ 4 into an FPS if you had the time and skill.

Fuck it's been a month...

No changes though. Building Infantry, OT are still attacking TBS to ensure that CV doesn't happen, TBS is holding out fine. OT cancelled coal trade for some reason but offered it back again when I started moving troops towards their offensive forces/TBS lands. I'm not getting involved for as long as they "gift" coal.

Game will be over in 30 turns max. Not checking culture progress but I lost count of GA number so I can't keep an accurate one anyway.
