If Thrawn also picks a civ, then I'd say we go Leader first as long as we have back-up civs for our "ideal" combos.

Maybe Persia comes in for CHA/PRO and Spain backstops Inca for the SPI route?

I could also live with that.  nod Just stop BW being "one right choice".

Priesthood is wrong because it's too far away and turns religion into a one very good, if not right, choice. BW is wrong because it has too much stuff (chops are better because chops are situational, most players on RB are really poor judges of chopping and clear cut everything. I used to do that. It's just bad. Become a tree hugger). AH is wrong because that pushes chariots to much. Pottery is an obvious no (get pottery. double whip granary, regrow into settler whips). Sailing is right because lighthouses are not an early game building, galleys are expensive really early, and thematically it fits. Sailing is the weakest tech so it is the only tech able to actually hold the power that is slavery without breaking.

Have we ever considered simply splitting Mining/BW up into 3 technologies? Take some of the BW rewards (maybe chops) and split it onto a new tech that is an optional prereq for BW.

I have. Need to literally move techs in the tech tree, and need new graphics for a new tech. Its really awkward but it is doable. Not sure if it is better to move slavery or chops though.

I once tried to lobby for Masonry, but Charriu was against it because close to home

I was familiarizing myself to CtH changes compared to vanilla civ 4 in the download thread of said mod, and I noticed this for version 5.0.0:

Quote:Barbarians
  • Never attack your stack if it includes a settler and a unit that is giving military happiness
  • Never raze a city even on autoraze. On recapturing such a city you too do not trigger an autoraze.

Does raging barbarians change this? Did I understand correctly, that escoritng a settler with a military unit guarantees that the barbs won't attack that stack? But the barbs then will attack the city once founded?

Just pointing out that Spain is also being played in PB77, alongside Churchill of Native America. It's a very different setup though, so I'm not too ashamed to shill once again for taking Spain out for a spin in PB66.

Quote:So we have:

CHA/PRO Native America + Agriculture, for a max fast-start, max fighty combo.

SPI/PRO Inca + Fishing, for an early religion (and then maybe into Oracle for the Prophet and to accelerate acces to useful civics?)

???/PRO Persia as a backup?
All these options look good to me. I still have slight preference for CHA/PRO Native America, but a fast religion could work as well. If ???/PRO Persia is backup choice, I like either EXP or ORG or maybe FIN. CHA should be ok too for Persia, so lock in Churchill or Saladin on first snake pick?
