PitBoss/PBEM with PB2 map

luddite Wrote:I've always wondered what it would be like playing on a map that everyone has seen before. You could really plan out all your strategy well in advance, that way.

Or wish you could. Humans especially close ones make it hard to do long term planning.

Speaking from memory and concerning Korea I think the area was pretty much on bar with the rest of the crowd so not much balancing work is needed. Copper was on awkward position but it was probably mainly because of Rome settling towards us and Iron was close by. Maybe it could have been a bit closer though.

You might want to consider also do you want to allow free moving of your initial settler or somehow limit it. Free moving would be better for the lurkers I think wink.

What rules would be proposed for pauses? Because I would be interested to participate but cannot guarantee that I don't have once in a while a day where I can't play.

Pauses: None. Just make it simple to understand. But a 24 hour timer generally runs at closer to 30 hours. However, once wars start, you generally have to stick to a perfect 24 or 48 hour turn timer.
Leaders: The usual, snake pick, no bans.

Gasper, any reason why it would be easier to fit a PBEM into your schedule rather than a PB game? A 24 hour PB game can be played whenever you have the time, whereas a PBEM you need to be available for a specific window every single day. It's nice to be able to blast through the first 50 turns in 3 weeks though, in a PB.

Honestly, its more the lower pressure/visibility of a PBEM game, where everyone is pretty understanding if something happens and you miss a turn. I don't really expect to run into those issues, but its just a matter of thinking 2 PBs at the same time could be stressful.

Regardless, I'll stay on the bench for now. If we get a few more interested parties and are a player or two away, I'll reconsider.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

There's also the possibility of playing the PB2 map with 5 players right?

Yeah, it is theoretically balanced OK for 5 players, even 4 if you don't mind a buildfest. Could even try a later era start (if people wanted).

I'm interested in playing. I've been lurking about here a bit, following a bunch of games and I'd like to try. Whether this is the game to try or not regarding my experience (which is practically none in MP), is something I question. Also, I have the Mac version of CIV; is that compatible with PB/PBEM of Windows versions?

Working with someone would be good too. smile

I'm interested in playing as well, but i would need a dedlurker who can play in a moment's notice since my internet is very unsteady.

Edit: No problem Serdoa =)

I take back my request for a place in this game, though I would like to offer to dedlurk Amelia. I should be able to play on short notice most of the time.
